Full Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY

The FIU Investigator II is responsible for managing a caseload of investigations, performing analysis and follow-up, and working cases from beginning to completion according to AML procedures and policies. Performs all duties in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the Company operates.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Conduct investigations generated from sources including cases generated through the Case Management Tool, client onboarding and maintenance and transaction monitoring referrals, government sources, and referrals from business partners and other control areas.
  • Conduct cases involving greater complexity or sensitivity, as assigned.
  • Research and analyze account records and reports to detect transactions involving potential financial criminal activity, such as fraud, money laundering, or terrorist financing.
  • Document and report investigation findings and prepare case files for review, including media search results, copies of statements and checks, and results from internal system searches.
  • Communicate with internal and external entities, members of the sales team, and other risk units.
  • Submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to front-line teams to obtain additional information in support of investigations and follow up to ensure timely receipt.
  • Collect and examine financial statements and documents to assist in identifying unusual transaction patterns.
  • Conduct research using available Bank systems, the internet, and databases consistent with the resolution of investigations.
  • Write and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) for review and filing, recommend relationship retention or termination, and track account closures as required.
  • Train and mentor new employees on current procedures.
  • Conduct cross-sector reviews across multiple business units.
  • Triage cases and identify items appropriate for escalation to Senior Management.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct BSA, AML, or OFAC experience or equivalent, including at least 2 years in an investigative role or equivalent.
  • Experience reviewing customer transactions and information for potentially suspicious activity and performing AML or financial investigations.
  • Work experience in a financial institution with job-specific experience in AML.
  • Knowledge of and responsibility for compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and laws, including Regulation Z, Regulation B, the Fair Housing Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering requirements, Customer Identification Program, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and Community Reinvestment Act.
  • Knowledge of laws applicable to money laundering, including the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, U.S. Treasury AML guidelines, OFAC requirements, and Suspicious Activity Reporting requirements.
  • Established business knowledge and understanding of financial products.
  • Ability to understand and draw conclusions from research.
  • Intermediate computer terminal and personal computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Intermediate math skills, including calculating interest and percentages, balancing accounts, performing calculations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, locating routine mathematical errors, computing rates, ratios, and percentages, and drafting and interpreting bar graphs.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions that have a moderate impact on the immediate work unit and cross-functional departments.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize short-term and long-term work schedules.
  • Ability to provide consultation and expert advice to management.
  • Ability to deliver informal and formal presentations inside and outside the organization, including speaking before assigned teams or other groups as needed.
  • Ability to address complex and difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in nonstandard situations.
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision.
  • CAMS, CFE, CPA, or CFCS certification preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, industry experience, training, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant in alignment with market data and other factors.
