Certifications: BCLS certification
Must-Have:
Completion of an accredited program for First Assisting
Completion of required clinical experience during the education process is required
Ability to work irregular hours
Possess manual dexterity for assisting skills
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Ability to work independently
Ability to foster good working relationships with other departments and OR staff members
Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers, understanding their needs for self-respect and dignity
Description:
Provides assistance to the surgeon during surgical procedures.
Responsibilities include exposure, hemostasis, suturing, tying, tissue manipulation, and closing wounds.
Applies dressings and collaborates with the surgical team under the supervision of a RN.
Assumes responsibility for the care and safety of patients during surgical procedures.
Facilitates communication between the surgeon, perioperative team, and other departments.
Maintains current knowledge of nursing practices and procedures related to the care of surgical patients.
Demonstrates ability to work closely with all members of the perioperative team, physicians, and patients/families.
Exerts heavy physical demands, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Occasional carrying and climbing of stairs, with exposure to dust, fumes, or gas.
