Fire Protection Engineer opportunity in
Johnson City, TN.
Position Summary:The Fire Protection Engineer serves as the lead technical expert responsible for developing, reviewing, and overseeing all fire protection and life-safety engineering activities for a large-scale industrial construction project. This role ensures that fire protection systems are designed, installed, and commissioned in accordance with applicable codes, industry standards, and project-specific risk criteria. The engineer provides strategic guidance, resolves complex technical issues, and acts as the primary interface with regulatory authorities, insurers, and internal/external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Lead the development and integration of fire protection engineering strategies across all project phases, from conceptual design through commissioning.
- Provide authoritative interpretation of NFPA, IFC/IBC, FM Global, OSHA, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Oversee fire hazard analyses, risk assessments, and performance-based design evaluations for high-hazard industrial processes.
- Approve fire protection system designs, including suppression, detection, alarm, smoke control, and passive fire protection systems.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study
- 20+ years of progressive fire protection engineering experience, with at least 10 years in industrial or high-hazard environments.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering (or ability to obtain).
- Extensive experience with NFPA codes
- Demonstrated leadership in large-scale construction projects, including design-build or EPC environments.
- Proficiency with fire modeling tools (e.g., FDS, Pathfinder) and hydraulic calculation software.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interface with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory bodies.
