Full Job Description
MatX is looking for a Finance Operations Lead to lead our FP&A function. We're looking for a hands-on expert who thrives in early-stage environments and wants to build. The sweet spot for this role is someone with deep experience to see the big picture, while also rolling up their sleeves to contribute to operational items. This is not a delegator-only role. You'll be an owner and a working manager, leading the day-to-day running of financial operations. You'll help us refine our financial discipline and clarity, and help us look around corners as we grow. We are looking for someone who can be:
  • Adaptable, not dogmatic. Not "this is how I've always done it" mentality
  • Collaborative builder. People who craft processes with the team, not at the team
  • Employee first in their mindset. Finance that serves the business, not the other way around
  • Still in the doing. Senior enough to lead, but close enough to the detail to still get their hands dirty
  • Built for pace. Comfortable with ambiguity, able to make decisions quickly and move
What You'll Do Here
  • Drive execution of the company's core financial planning, forecasting & modeling, budgeting, and reporting functions
  • Oversee finance & accounting operations, including internal team members and external accountants (including accounts receivable and accounts payable)
  • Hone and improve our processes, systems, and internal controls. Fine-tune the financial discipline, driving accountability & corrective measures while supporting a fast-moving engineering organization without unnecessary friction
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to ultimately support both the business and our employees. Collaborate with team leads to provide clarity around financial guardrails related to employee experience, development, purchasing, hiring, etc
  • Contribute to our capital & equity strategy and support its execution, including project finance, debt facilities, venture vs. infrastructure capital, and timing
  • Contribute to investor relations, ensuring that required financial reporting is carried out in a timely fashion. Provide financial inputs into standing and ad hoc Board discussions
  • Expand and strengthen the finance function to support our growth, from start-up to scale-up
  • Translate complex data into clear insights for non-financial leaders and decision-makers, including presenting financial health and key concepts to the company at large
  • Empower and elevate finance team members through clear expectations, strategic mentorship, and career path guidance
Who You Are
  • 10+ years of experience in relevant Finance roles
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • MBA is preferred; CPA/CMA is a plus
  • You view both the business and employees as your 'customers'. You aren't annoyed by supporting employees
  • You have startup experience, and fluency in modern FinOps practices and systems
  • You have experience leading a team, or acting as #2 to the CFO.
  • You collaborate to win - chasing the best solution for MatX, not the path of least resistance. You bring discipline and a point of view, and also recognize that there is sometimes room to be flexible
  • You aim to foster a culture of high performance, speedy support, and continuous improvement
  • You are willing and able to execute tactically, while also bringing a strategic lens and deep experience.
  • You know what right looks like and impart a keen eye for detail and quality
