Job Description

Reporting to the Finishing Business Manager, the Team Manager provides direct leadership to finishing operations, supervising the day-to-day production, safety, quality, and performance of 15-20 hourly direct reports. This role requires an action-oriented leader who can make timely decisions, prioritize effectively under pressure, and collaborate across shifts to meet plant objectives.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 9PM-7AM

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Development
  • Performance Management: Coach, counsel, and manage corrective action processes; conduct regular performance reviews and provide actionable development feedback.
  • Talent Development: Evaluate department proficiencies to design and execute training plans for key shift roles.
  • Shift Administration: Manage attendance records, vacation schedules, and payroll processing; ensure consistent application of company policies.
  • Talent Acquisition: Participate in interviewing, onboarding, and selecting new team members.
  • Emergency Response: Provide clear direction during emergencies, evacuations, or employee injuries.

Operations & Continuous Improvement
  • Floor Presence: Spend a minimum of 50% of the shift on the manufacturing floor.
  • Performance Tracking: Facilitate daily Tier I reviews, update metrics, and maintain accurate shift production and batch documentation.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, downtime, quality defects, and resource constraints.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Maintenance, Quality, and Process Engineering teams to resolve technical issues; communicate shift status to plant leadership.
  • Workplace Organization: Maintain high housekeeping standards and conduct regular 5S audits.

Safety Culture
  • Compliance: Enforce company safety standards and mentor team members on safe practices.
  • Audits & Oversight: Conduct routine safety audits to proactively mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Incident Response: Lead investigations and complete formal documentation for all accidents and near-misses.


Qualifications

Required:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 6+ years in a manufacturing environment, with proven experience supervising hourly personnel (including safety compliance, performance management, coaching, and timekeeping/payroll).
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver clear shift presentations, facilitate team meetings, and build rapport across all levels of a diverse workforce.
  • Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with a track record of implementing permanent countermeasures.
  • Leadership: Ability to delegate effectively, build a cohesive team atmosphere, and drive operational results across all levels of the organization.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Supervisory experience within ISO 9000, TS 16949, Lean, or Six Sigma manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success implementing and sustaining continuous improvement projects on the production floor.


Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $75,300 - $100,400 / year. The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
