Full Job Description
FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Aqualitas is seeking a Financial Controller to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CFO or other Designate your work will include but not limited to the following:

  • Establish and maintain the organizations overall accounting systems, procedures and policies.
  • Prepare annual operating and capital budgets, year-end working papers
  • Prepare timely and reliable monthly financial statements (profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, variance report) and year end reports for internal and external users
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions
  • Manage and comply with local, provincial and federal government reporting requirements.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Prepare Month-end and year-end close
  • Preparation and maintenance of financial inventory records
  • Other duties as required and assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
  • Adhere to all Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Good Production Practices (GPP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)


Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
  • Qualified accountant (CPA), with at least 5 years previous job experience
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working in SAP would be a definite asset.
  • Hands-on approach and proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines


  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Experience handling budgets and forecasting/reporting results
  • Knowledge of the Cannabis Industry
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage/execute multiple ongoing projects
  • Knowledge of GMP and GPP is an asset
  • Ability to act independently and as a team member
  • Attention to detail and accuracy including thorough documentation abilities
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Ability to prioritize activities and adjust priorities on short notice
  • Excellent comprehension, communication and interpersonal skills


Other details:

Location: This position offers a hybrid work model, with remote work from home and travel to the Brooklyn, Nova Scotia area required twice per week.

Compensation: To be determined based on skills and experience

Status and Hours: Permanent, 40hrs per week
