Full Job Description
The Financial Analyst supports the Director of FP&A and the broader Finance team in preparing the annual operating budget and forecasts, analyzing business initiatives and operating expenses, and developing financial reporting and decision-support tools. The role is designed for an early-career professional who brings solid financial fundaments and is curious, analytical and technically minded, with an interest in building a career in financial planning and analysis. The Financial Analyst will gain broad exposure to FP&A while serving as a primary analytical resource for general and administrative (G&A) operating expenses. RESPONSIBILTIES: • Help prepare financial models and scenario analysis using Excel, Power BI and FP&A financial planning platform to evaluate business initiatives, cost trends, resource needs and other management decisions. • Serve as the primary analyst for G&A operating expenses, coordinating inputs, maintaining supporting schedules, and preparing monthly forecast updates. • Analyze actual results against budget and forecast; investigate variances, identify underlying drivers and communicate clear explanations to finance leadership. • Partner with business areas to gather information, understand financial drivers and use technology, automation and AI-enabled tools, where appropriate, to improve the efficiency and quality of analysis and reporting. • Assist with development of management metrics (KPIs), dashboards and recurring reports that provide insight into financial and operating performance. • Support special projects as assigned. • This position requires adherence to United Educators' cybersecurity policies and industry best practices to protect company and member data. Employees must incorporate security-conscious practices appropriate to their role into daily work and complete required security training. REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, management information systems, data analytics, business or a related quantitative discipline • Typically requires 2 years of relevant experience in FP&A, financial analysis, accounting, business analytics or a related field; internship, co-op, academic project or comparable experience may be considered • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including curiosity about business drivers and a willingness to investigate why results differ from expectations • Interest in financial modeling, forecasting and scenario analysis, with the ability and desire to develop these skills on the job • Working proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with formulas, pivot tables and organizing or analyzing data is preferred • Exposure to Power BI or other business intelligence/data visualization tools through work, coursework or projects is preferred • Interest in technology, automation and AI-assisted tools and a willingness to experiment with new tools to improve productivity and analysis • Experience with SQL, PowerApps/Power Automate or similar low-code tools a plus • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Finance colleagues and business partners • Detail-oriented, organized and able to manage deadlines while developing increasing independence and ownership • Exposure to a financial planning or budgeting system such as Solver, Datarails or Cube is a plus but not required. • Prior insurance industry experience is a plus but not required. The below annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations. Salary Range $82,000-$90,000 USD BENEFITS: • Health Insurance - We offer subsidized plan options with an optional pre-tax Health Savings Account (HSA), including an annual employer contribution and investment options. After one year of service, employees receive a 7% profit sharing non-elective contribution, as well as become eligible for a matched contribution of 25% of the first 5% employee deferral. Employees can make pre-tax contributions or taxed (Roth) salary reductions. Catch-up contributions for employees 50 years old and over. Employer contributions are fully vested immediately • Life Insurance - UE pays for Basic Life Insurance, and employees have the option to apply for additional Voluntary coverage • Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance - We offer coverage in the event employees are unable to work for a period of time • For the first two years of employment, employees accrue PTO at 24 days per year.
