This posting will be used to fill a temporary, full-time position to March 31, 2028 working 75-hours bi-weekly. Temporary assignments with supervisor's approval will be considered.The opportunity...The Office of the Comptroller provides a central service to the Government of Yukon by maintaining the financial management and reporting framework for departments, government corporations and executive decision makers. The services culminate in the production and delivery of the annual public accounts to the Legislative Assembly, providing transparency and accountability to the public.
The main responsibility of the Financial Accountant is to assist in the preparation of the Yukon Government's financial statements, which includes compiling the necessary supporting documents and schedules for inclusion in the Yukon Public Accounts. This involves consolidating multiple entities into a single statement, which is audited by the Office of the Auditor General. Additionally, the Financial Accountant reviews transactions for compliance with accounting standards and prepares T4/T4A forms for non-payroll-related transactions, such as service contracts and honoraria. This role also entails reviewing and reconciling Tangible Capital Assets (TCA) and Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO) records within the fixed assets module and the general ledger, as well as supporting the ongoing use and enhancement of financial reporting systems and tools, including CaseWare.

Essential Qualifications- Completion or near completion of a professional accounting designation.
- Post secondary degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related subject area.
- Experience in public sector accounting and reporting including the preparation of financial statements.
- Experience in financial analysis, accounting schedules and working papers preparation.
- Experience with financial reporting software, including CaseWare, as well as internal controls and process improvement, will be considered an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
