Job Description
The Finance Manager, Corporate Accounting, plays a key leadership role in delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting across the organization. Responsible for overseeing the period-end close process, this role ensures the integrity of consolidated financial results across business units, with a strong focus on balance sheet accuracy, G&A reporting, and compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this position leads a team of Financial Analysts, providing guidance, oversight, and development. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, balances multiple priorities, and continuously seeks opportunities to improve processes and strengthen governance. This is a high-visibility role with meaningful exposure to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.
Key responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, ensuring deadlines are met and results are accurate
Review journal entries and account reconciliations including payroll liability accounts to ensure completeness and integrity
Oversee G&A accounting, including expense analysis, accruals, cost allocations and reporting review
Support preparation and review of consolidated income statement
Review intercompany transactions, settlement runs and elimination entries
Coordinate and support external and internal audit requests, including process walkthroughs and documentation.
Ensure adherence to accounting policies, internal controls, and corporate procedures while identifying and mitigating financial reporting and operational risks
Partner with Finance, Payroll, FP&A, and cost centre managers to support budgeting, financial reporting and strategic initiatives
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team by providing mentorship, training, performance feedback, and growth opportunities
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements, automation opportunities and best practices to enhance efficiency, scalability, and control effectiveness
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in corporate accounting or financial reporting
CPA Designation required
Solid understanding of financial statements, close processes and account reconciliations
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines
Analytical mindset with strong problem solving skills
Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets
Effective communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
Accounting experience with large-scale Enterprise Reporting systems, knowledge of Workday preferred
