Job Description

Main responsibilities:

The Manager, Supply Chain Finance is Shaw's Supply Chain's forward-looking analytics and decision-support partner, responsible for turning operational and financial data - labor, productivity, transportation, inventory and cost - into clear insights, forecasts and actionable recommendations for Supply Chain and corporate finance leadership. This is a hands-on role that is functionally both FP&A and accounting, with approximately a 70/30 split, respectively. The manager also maintains oversight of accounting close, reporting and internal controls to ensure the numbers underpinning that analysis are accurate, timely and GAAP/SOX-compliant. Success in this role means being as much a strategic advisor as an accountant.

Strategic Analysis, Forecasting & Planning
  • Lead annual budgets, quarterly projections, monthly outlooks and long-range planning for the distribution centers and transportation network, built on data-driven operational assumptions (volume, labor, productivity, transportation, inventory and cost drivers).
  • Coordinate all budgeting and forecasting activities for the distribution centers.
  • Analyze results against budget, forecast and prior year; proactively identify risks, opportunities and root causes, not just report variances after the fact.
  • Interact with operational department managers regarding budget activity and actual results.
  • Translate complex financial and operational data into concise, actionable recommendations and executive-ready presentations for Supply Chain and corporate leadership.
  • Interpret and analyze financial reports and prepare recommendations concerning operating results for the General Manager, Director, and Senior Director of Supply Chain Finance.
  • Develop scenario models, business cases and ROI/cost-benefit analysis (including NPV and IRR analysis) for labor, capital, technology and process investment decisions.
  • Ensure capital expenditures are properly controlled and accounted for, and that savings/investment projects are validated.
  • Partner proactively with distribution center and transportation leaders to shape performance improvement plans using predictive and trend analysis, not just historical reporting.
  • Perform distribution center analyses and studies for projects as required, including analysis of outside wholesalers.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting as requested by the Controller or operational management areas.
  • Participate in development and publication of daily, weekly, period, and quarterly financial reporting schedules.

Accounting, Close & Internal Controls
  • Oversee accurate, timely weekly, period, quarterly and annual accounting and reporting deliverables in accordance with company policy and GAAP.
  • Guide transactional processing to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll as applicable.
  • Review accruals, journal entries, reclasses, account activity, billing, inventory transactions and reconciliations.
  • Complete period balance sheet reconciliation activity to confirm ledger accuracy.
  • Monitor all general ledger activity to confirm accuracy of postings and promptly respond to any changes deemed necessary.
  • Review expense payments, including purchase card activity, to confirm accuracy, procedures, and approval controls are adhered to.
  • Ensure results are complete, well-supported and consistent with company accounting policy.
  • Maintain clear ownership, deadlines, documentation standards and backup coverage for recurring close work.
  • Communicate with vendors to answer questions and provide backup to payment and deduction activity where needed.

Inventory Control, SOX & Risk Governance
  • Provide functional leadership to the Inventory Control Lead at each distribution center (Methuen and Wells), establishing consistent standards.
  • Oversee inventory accuracy reporting, cycle counts, physical inventories, adjustment review, receiving/shipping controls, shrink analysis and discrepancy resolution.
  • Partner with the Inventory Control area on financial controls and associated reporting of activity.
  • Ensure timely completion, review and retention of SOX evidence and required documentation.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies to ensure adequate accounting controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Partner with Operations, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Technology and corporate partners to resolve control gaps and process breakdowns.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and develop two direct reports; set priorities and accountability for the two Inventory Control Leads.
  • Develop staff members for future opportunities and as potential position/succession alternatives.
  • Build a coordinated team across three locations via communication, delegation, cross-training and standard practices.
  • Drive reporting efficiency and data quality improvements through standardization, automation and better use of financial, warehouse and BI systems.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-enabled tools, capabilities and agents to build the finance function of the future - piloting automation and AI use cases for reporting, forecasting and analysis while ensuring proper governance, oversight and controls are in place.
  • Serve as a trusted, forward-looking finance and analytics partner to Supply Chain leadership, balancing strategic analysis with recurring accounting deadlines.
  • Routinely collaborate with retail and distribution management, providing information and assistance as required.

We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting, FP&A, financial analysis or supply chain finance experience with a Fortune 500 company, including leadership/people-management responsibility (at least 2 years in a manager or supervisory role).
  • Experience in distribution, warehouse, transportation, retail supply chain or another complex operating environment strongly preferred; major consumer products or distribution industry experience a plus.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of period-end close, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, internal controls and inventory accounting.
  • Strong understanding of inventory systems and how they relate to financial reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to build financial/data models and translate data into clear, actionable insight for non-finance leaders; ability to build complex Excel financial reports from scratch.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; strong computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, SQL, Hyperion and Essbase; experience with BI/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and ERP/warehouse management/planning systems strongly preferred.
  • Ability to think strategically and identify/execute appropriate action plans.
  • Excellent project management and resource prioritization skills; ability to develop realistic timelines and deliver results.
  • Strong communication (oral and written), organization and relationship-management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and desire to be a team player; ability to work with and through others to achieve desired results.
  • High degree of initiative and results orientation; ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-volume operation with tight deadlines and high service expectations.
  • Ability to travel among Methuen, Wells and supporting locations (travel requirement: less than 10%).

Preferred
  • CPA, CMA, MBA or other relevant advanced credential.
  • Experience with predictive/statistical modeling or automation tools (e.g., Power Query, Alteryx, SQL) is a plus.

We also provide a variety of benefits including:
