Finance Data Systems Specialist, you serve as a strategic architect of ATB's financial data ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance Architecture, you act as the vital bridge between high-level financial strategy and the data created by the underlying technical infrastructure that powers it.
Your mandate is to champion data integration and lineage stewardship-ensuring every financial transaction, from source capture to final reporting, moves with absolute integrity across interconnected systems. You are tasked with proactively hunting for systemic gaps, anticipating data and system vulnerabilities, automating workflows, and engineering preventative controls to ensure seamless data flow across ATB's financial landscape.
At ATB, you will harmonize business motivations with technical execution, turning complex business requirements into reliable, automated system solutions. You will take full ownership of high-impact, data-intensive initiatives aligned with your domain, and play a central role in delivering key subledger projects-including upgrades, implementations, and support packs.
Accountabilities- System Health & Vulnerability Management: Develop proactive, repeatable diagnostic frameworks and perform health checks using advanced analytics to identify anomalies, investigate root causes, and resolve system vulnerabilities.
- Framework Standardization & Capability Building: Standardize and document diagnostic frameworks to cross-train team, driving decentralized process adoption and safeguarding automated processing, data lineage, and financial reporting integrity.
- Process Optimization & Automation: Drive continuous improvement by identifying and executing opportunities to automate workflows-including but not limited to financial data collection, analysis, and reporting - maximizing operational efficiency and data reliability.
- Solution Delivery & Stakeholder Alignment: Partner across business and technical teams to design, build, and deliver reliable solutions that fulfill ATB's accounting and financial reporting requirements
- Posting Schemas, Reconciliations & Balance Resolution: Investigate inconsistencies between subledger and general ledger balances. Analyze transaction-to-GL derivation logic to identify accounting configuration errors, recommending system updates and preventative controls to reduce operational disruptions.
Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceDistinctive Competencies & Technical Skills:
- Systems Architecture & Integration
- Core Financial Platforms: Deep technical knowledge of core banking platforms, GL/subledgers (SAP FRDP, FPSL, S/4HANA Finance), enterprise data warehouses, and integration patterns.
- Solution Architecture: Proven capability to design end-to-end data flows and apply architectural principles to complex financial and accounting systems.
- Technical & Data Engineering
- Database Querying & Optimization: Expert-level SQL skills to query, tune, and extract insights from high-volume financial databases.
- Data Architecture & Analytics Automation: Design, transform, and automate large-scale financial data models using modern cloud platforms (BigQuery, GCP) and advanced programming tools (Python, JAVA, SQL, Apps Script).
- Data Harmonization: Hands-on expertise in data mining, curation, cleansing, and pattern recognition within multi-layered banking systems.
- Reconciliations & Quality Assurance
- Financial Diagnostics: Expert ability to perform root-cause analysis, tracing and resolving complex source-to-subledger and subledger-to-GL variance issues.
- Data Integrity Controls: Capability to design robust testing frameworks, automated validation scripts, and controls across production environments.Governance and Compliance: In-depth knowledge of financial data governance standards and data lineage tracking.
- Technical Enablement & Cross Functional Collaboration
- Technical-Business Translation: Skill in bridging technical and business teams by translating complex concepts both ways.
- Data Storytelling: Ability to synthesize raw, complex financial data into actionable business insights.
- Autonomous Execution: High degree of self-direction in managing day-to-day role requirements and deliverables within defined timelines.
- Technical Knowledge Transfer and Peer Upskilling: Act as an informal mentor to the team , elevating overall team data capabilities, preventative daily monitoring, and workflow automation.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Management Information Systems (MIS), Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field, combined with 4+ years of experience in financial systems or data engineering.
- Accounting Domain (Highly Preferred): Strong understanding of General Ledger concepts, subledger-to-GL reconciliations, and financial reporting standards (CPA designation or candidate status is an asset).
- SAP & Systems Certifications (Preferred): SAP Certified Application Associate - SAP S/4HANA for Financial Accounting, SAP Financial Products Subledger (FPSL), or cloud data engineering credentials (GCP/AWS).
Additional InformationThis position has a hybrid work arrangement. You'll work both remote and onsite, where time onsite is based on your job accountabilities and performance objectives.
