Field Supervisor - Carpentry

Full-Time | On-Site | Los Angeles, CA

About Your Role

CMTS is seeking a highly motivated Field Supervisor - Carpentry to support the Los Angeles Unified School District Facilities Services Division. This role supports the Facilities Conditions Assessment program by identifying, assessing, and documenting building component data across District sites.

The Field Supervisor - Carpentry will use construction knowledge and field experience to evaluate existing building systems, assess overall condition and remaining service life, collect measurements and quantities, and support field survey activities in collaboration with other trade surveyors and District staff.

Education Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management preferred
• Candidates without a bachelor's degree must have at least 10 years of experience
• Four years of experience may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis

What You'll Need to Get the Job Done
• 6 or more years of full-time paid professional experience working with on-site construction management teams
• Experience working with campus administrators, faculty, staff, and field teams
• Strong knowledge of building construction, carpentry systems, and existing building conditions
• Ability to identify building systems hidden behind walls, ceilings, and floors
• Experience assessing building component condition and remaining service life
• Ability to collect and document field data using tablets, laptops, smartphones, and other computer-based tools
• Strong communication, organization, and field documentation skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other trade surveyors and District personnel
• Ability to support ad hoc surveys related to District sites and buildings as needed

What Will Make You Stand Out
• Prior LAUSD or K-12 facilities experience
• Experience supporting Facilities Conditions Assessment programs
• Strong carpentry background with hands-on construction field experience
• Experience supervising field staff, survey teams, or trade personnel
• Experience collecting quantities, measurements, and boilerplate field information
• Knowledge of school facilities, public works, or educational construction environments

What You'll Do
• Identify and collect building component data on systems installed at District sites
• Use tablets, laptops, smartphones, and other digital tools to enter field data
• Apply construction knowledge to identify systems hidden behind walls, ceilings, and floors
• Assess the overall condition and remaining service life of building system components
• Follow direction and guidance from LAUSD FCA Unit leadership when determining Remaining Service Life values
• Work collaboratively with other trade surveyors to gather quantities, measurements, and field information
• Conduct and support ad hoc surveys related to District sites and buildings as needed
• Support field survey activities across active District facilities
• May supervise staff or survey participants as needed
• Serve as a resource to staff during field assessment activities
