FIELD SOLUTIONS MANAGER

SUMMARY

The Field Solutions Manager supports the Director of Field Solutions by coordinating the technical development, engineering support, and execution of fire alarm, fire suppression, and life safety system projects - particularly in complex applications. This position serves as a technical leader within the organization, ensuring that engineered solutions comply with applicable codes, customer specifications, and company standards while providing support to sales, operations, field personnel, and customers.

The Field Solutions Manager is responsible for coordinating system design, reviewing technical documentation, mentoring technical staff, assisting with complex commissioning activities, and ensuring successful project execution from concept through completion. ORR's focus on Mission Critical and Special Hazards applications requires the Field Solutions Manager to have extensive fire protection experience in both areas, although Special Hazards tends to be an area that requires more specialty support of this nature.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Leadership & Engineering Support

  • Provide technical support for fire alarm, clean agent, water-based suppression, special hazard, and life safety system projects.


  • Review and approve engineered system designs, drawings, calculations, and equipment selections.


  • Coordinate with designers and CAD personnel during project development.


  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, IFC, IBC, UL, FM, AHJ requirements, and manufacturer standards.


  • Assist in developing company engineering standards and best practices.


  • Serve as a technical resource for complex troubleshooting and system performance issues


  • Support permitting and AHJ plan review responses.


Project Support & Sales Support

  • Assist Operations with technical questions throughout project execution.


  • Support commissioning plans, acceptance testing, and final inspections.


  • Work closely with estimating and business development teams on technically complex opportunities.


  • Review customer specifications and develop compliant technical solutions.


  • Participate in customer meetings when technical expertise is required.


Code Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, IFC, IBC, UL, FM, AHJ requirements, and manufacturer standards.


  • Stay current on applicable codes, standards, and local AHJ requirements.


  • Interpret code requirements and communicate impacts to internal teams.


  • Review project documentation before release.


  • Perform internal design audits.


Training & Mentorship

  • Mentor designers, project engineers, and field technicians.


  • Conduct internal technical training sessions.


  • Assist in onboarding new engineering personnel.


  • Promote professional development and code education.


Vendor & Manufacturer Coordination

  • Maintain relationships with manufacturers and technical representatives.


  • Evaluate new products and technologies.


  • Coordinate manufacturer technical support when required.


Engineering Standards & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain engineering standards and templates.


  • Develop standard operating procedures.


  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency.


  • Assist in implementing new software and design tools.


  • Recommend process improvements that enhance project quality and profitability.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in fire alarm, fire suppression, or life safety systems.


  • Experience with engineered fire protection systems.


  • Experience supporting field installation and commissioning.


  • Working knowledge of fire alarm systems, special hazard suppression systems, water-based fire protection systems, clean agent systems, detection technologies, smoke control, emergency communication systems, video fire detection, and BDA systems.


  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, hydraulic calculation software, battery calculation software, and manufacturer configuration software.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent experience.


  • Previous supervisory or technical leadership experience.


  • Experience with BESS fire protection systems.


  • Experience with Revit.


  • NICET Fire Alarm Level III or IV.


  • NICET Water-Based Systems certification.


  • Manufacturer certifications.


  • OSHA 30 certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily remote and requires travel as needed to support customer and business needs. Travel may include visits to customer sites, ORR branch locations, project sites, industry events, and other locations as business needs require.
