Join Hitachi Energy's Service Business as a Field Service Representative, where you'll support either Generator Circuit Breaker or Air-Insulated Switchgear (or similar high-voltage equipment) across utility and industrial substations. You'll install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot these critical assets-often up to 800 kV-leading field scopes with minimal supervision and partnering closely with customers to keep the grid safe, reliable, and resilient. Your work will help drive continuous improvement and service innovation in the power sector.

How you'll make an impact

  • Execute installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair activities on high-voltage substation equipment-either Generator Circuit Breaker or Air-Insulated Switchgear (or similar)-in the field and at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical/mechanical failures; implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid repeat issues.
  • Perform electrical testing/diagnostics and support outage & construction activities in substations.
  • Lead field service projects and direct on-site crews; provide technical direction and clear status/reporting.
  • Deliver services both on-site and remotely as needed to meet customer SLAs.
  • Engage with customers to anticipate needs and surface service or modernization opportunities that drive uptime and performance.
  • Recommend product/process improvements by feeding structured field insights to engineering and service teams.
  • Document work thoroughly, including test results, as-found/as-left conditions, and safety checks.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • 2-5 years of proven experience in technical field service work.
  • Technical diploma/degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred. Trade education and experience in Industrial Mechanic and Electrical fields will be considered.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude; able to diagnose and resolve issues with minimal assistance.
  • Hands-on experience with substation construction, electrical testing, and high-voltage apparatus (either technology); exposure up to 800 kV is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership coordinating/leading field crews and contractors.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and test-equipment software; valid U.S. driver's license; willingness to travel extensively (up to ~80%) across North America (U.S., Canada, Mexico).
