Opportunity Snapshot

Location: Field-Based | Travel: ~80% | Job Type: Full-Time

You're an experienced reciprocating compression specialist who knows how to get the job done - and knows how to lead others through it. As a Field Service Crew Chief, you'll combine advanced technical expertise with hands-on field leadership, directing crews through complex maintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, installation, startup, and commissioning activities.

You'll be responsible for more than your own work. You'll help determine how the job gets executed, who does what, whether the work meets Cooper's standards, and whether the crew and customer are set up for a successful outcome.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead field crews through complex service work, including major overhauls, repairs, maintenance, installation, startup, testing, and commissioning of reciprocating engines and compressors.
  • Serve as the senior technical resource on assigned jobs, applying advanced knowledge of reciprocating compression equipment to troubleshoot problems and determine appropriate repair or corrective actions.
  • Plan and direct daily crew activities, assigning work, coordinating resources, and adjusting execution as job conditions, customer requirements, or technical issues change.
  • Ensure field work is performed to Cooper quality standards and OEM specifications, including inspections, measurements, documentation, testing, and final verification.
  • Lead pre-task safety planning, job-site safety practices, and environmental requirements, stopping or modifying work when conditions do not support safe execution.
  • Serve as a primary field contact for customers, communicating job status, technical findings, schedule impacts, and required actions while maintaining professional customer relationships.
  • Coach and develop Field Service personnel through hands-on instruction, technical guidance, and feedback while maintaining accountability for safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.

WHO YOU ARE

  • An advanced reciprocating compression technician with significant hands-on field experience and demonstrated technical progression through the Field Service organization.
  • Proven ability to perform and lead major overhauls and complex repairs on reciprocating engines and compressors.
  • Strong technical knowledge across multiple reciprocating compression product lines and the ability to apply OEM procedures, specifications, tolerances, and technical documentation.
  • Capable of troubleshooting complex mechanical and operational problems and making sound technical decisions in the field.
  • Experienced leading field work involving precision measurements, inspections, alignment, testing, troubleshooting, and equipment commissioning.
  • Able to organize work, direct crew activities, manage changing priorities, and maintain accountability for job execution.
  • Comfortable serving as the technical and operational point of contact between Cooper, the field crew, and the customer.
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 80%, including extended customer assignments and non-standard work schedules when required.

PREFERRED

  • Extensive experience with Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior, Gemini, Enterprise, Caterpillar, Clark, Waukesha, Ariel, or similar reciprocating compression equipment.
  • Experience leading major overhauls, turnarounds, startup, commissioning, or other complex field projects.
  • Experience with coupling/frame alignment, engine balancing, precision measurement, failure analysis, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Previous formal or informal responsibility for directing, mentoring, training, or evaluating field technicians.
  • Technical certification, vocational training, associate degree, or equivalent advanced field experience.

WHY JOIN US

  • Most benefits are effective on your first day of employment - no waiting period.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company-paid life, AD&D, short-term, and long-term disability coverage (6-month short-term disability waiting period)
  • Voluntary life, AD&D, and long-term disability buy up plan
  • Voluntary benefit plans including accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity insurance plans
  • 401(k) with up to 5% company match, employees are 100% vested on Day 1
