All resources, and logistics required to perform services and maintenance activities on customers' site/property. These activities contribute to, maintain, repair and refurbish sold or existing products. Includes all types of maintenance service (preventive and remedial), manage maintenance facilities and field services engineering. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

GIS FIELD ENGINEER / SUPERVISOR

GE Vernova - Field Services | North America

About the Role

GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional GIS Field Engineer / Supervisor to lead the installation, supervision, testing, and engineering oversight of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems across projects in North America. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role that combines field execution excellence with engineering adaptability - built for professionals who thrive on both leading crews and solving complex technical challenges.

What You'll Own

Field Supervision & Site Leadership
  • Lead and supervise GE Vernova field teams and subcontractors across GIS installation, maintenance, repair, and modernization (retrofit) projects - 69 kV to 800 kV
  • Drive efficient execution through hands-on coordination of manpower, tools, equipment, and site resources
  • Serve as the primary GE Vernova representative and customer interface on site
  • Lead daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA/AHA)
  • Manage site interfaces with clients, contractors, commissioning teams, and project managers
  • Monitor installation progress and deliver accurate daily, weekly, and final site reports
  • Support commissioning, high-voltage testing, and punch list closure through to formal client handover

Engineering Review, Drawing Conversion & Technical Documentation
  • Review, adapt, and draft engineering documents including GA drawings, control schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, terminal diagrams, mounting details, and Bills of Materials
  • Review converted European-standard mechanical support structure and breaker control drawings into North American-compliant packages aligned with IEEE, ANSI, CSA, NEC/NFPA, and local utility requirements - if required amend.
  • Identify technical gaps between European and North American design practices and recommend compliant engineering solutions
  • Write and adapt Method Statements for specific job types (new installation, maintenance, repair, Hi-Pot tests) based on existing generic procedures
  • Prepare engineering documentation suitable for review and stamping by a licensed Professional Engineer (PE/P.Eng.) where required
  • Ensure all engineering changes are documented, traceable, and compliant with client and statutory requirements

Quality, EHS & Regulatory Compliance
  • Enforce strict compliance with GE Vernova EHS policies, OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 & 1926), NFPA 70E arc flash requirements, and LOTO procedures
  • Manage on-site quality inspections, audits, and hold points
  • Verify training, certifications, and PPE compliance for all site personnel
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority without hesitation when unsafe conditions are identified
  • Champion GE Vernova's Zero Harm safety culture at every level of site activity

Procurement & Sourcing Technical Support
  • Prepare clear technical specifications and drawing packages to support North American component sourcing and procurement
  • Define and validate component substitutions where European parts are unavailable or non-compliant in North America
  • Support material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor clarification processes
  • Coordinate with suppliers to confirm fit, function, certification, and compliance of selected materials

Coaching & Team Development
  • Mentor and develop junior field engineers, supervisors, and technicians & provide customer training
  • Share field expertise, technical knowledge, and best practices across the team


What You Bring

Technical Expertise
  • Proven hands-on expertise in GIS substation installation, assembly, maintenance, repair, and retrofit (69 kV - 800 kV)
  • Ability to read, interpret, mark up, and revise mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation procedures
  • Working knowledge of Local Control Cubicles (LCC) and secondary/control systems
  • Ability to convert engineering documentation from European to North American standards
  • Knowledge of high-voltage substation breaker control philosophy and mechanical support design
  • Experience with procurement documentation: BOMs, technical specifications, and approved vendor lists
  • Strong understanding of quality, testing, and turnover documentation requirements

Safety & Compliance Knowledge
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA (29 CFR 1910 / 1926), NFPA 70E, and LOTO requirements
  • Experience conducting and validating JSA/AHA prior to work execution
  • Familiarity with U.S. and Canadian regulatory frameworks for high-voltage field work

Leadership & Soft Skills
  • Demonstrated field leadership and site team coordination on complex, high-voltage projects
  • Strong troubleshooting capability in both electrical and mechanical environments
  • Customer-focused communicator with strong relationship management skills
  • Ability to work independently at remote project sites under challenging conditions
  • Comfortable operating in both field execution and technical review environments


Qualifications

Degree, diploma, or technical training in Electrical, Electromechanical, or equivalent Engineering discipline

Significant field experience in HV GIS installation, construction supervision, and commissioning

Experience with European and North American substation standards strongly preferred

PE/P.Eng. preferred; candidates with qualifications compatible with licensed supervision are encouraged to apply

Fluent English required; French is a strong asset

Must be legally authorized to work and travel in the US, Canada, and EU

Work Environment

This role is field-based, with frequent travel to customer project sites across North America and internationally.

Vos responsabilités

Supervision de chantier & Leadership opérationnel
  • Diriger et superviser les équipes terrain GE Vernova ainsi que les sous-traitants dans le cadre de projets d'installation, de maintenance, de réparation et de modernisation (retrofit) de GIS - de 69 kV à 800 kV
  • Assurer une exécution efficace par la coordination directe des ressources humaines, des outils, des équipements et des moyens de chantier
  • Représenter GE Vernova sur site en tant qu'interlocuteur(trice) principal(e) auprès des clients
  • Animer les causeries sécurité quotidiennes, les briefings sûreté et les Analyses de Risques au Poste de Travail (JSA/AHA)
  • Gérer les interfaces de chantier avec les clients, entrepreneurs, équipes de mise en service et chefs de projet
  • Suivre l'avancement des travaux et produire des rapports journaliers, hebdomadaires et finaux précis
  • Assurer le support à la mise en service, aux essais haute tension et à la levée des réserves jusqu'à la réception formelle par le client

Revue technique, conversion de plans & documentation d'ingénierie
  • Réviser, adapter et rédiger des documents d'ingénierie incluant les plans d'ensemble (GA), schémas de contrôle-commande, schémas de câblage, plans d'interconnexion, schémas de bornes, détails de montage et nomenclatures (BOM)
  • Convertir les plans mécaniques de structures de support et de contrôle de disjoncteurs selon les normes européennes en dossiers conformes aux standards nord-américains (IEEE, ANSI, CSA, NEC/NFPA) et aux exigences des gestionnaires de réseau locaux - et les amender si nécessaire
  • Identifier les écarts techniques entre les pratiques de conception européennes et nord-américaines, et proposer des solutions d'ingénierie conformes
  • Rédiger et adapter les Modes Opératoires pour des types d'interventions spécifiques (nouvelle installation, maintenance, réparation, essais haute tension) sur la base des procédures génériques existantes
  • Préparer la documentation technique destinée à la revue et à la signature par un Ingénieur Professionnel agréé (PE/P.Eng.) lorsque requis
  • Garantir que toutes les modifications d'ingénierie sont documentées, traçables et conformes aux exigences clients et réglementaires

Qualité, HSE & conformité réglementaire
  • Veiller au strict respect des politiques EHS (Santé Sécurité Environnement) de GE Vernova, des réglementations OSHA (29 CFR 1910 et 1926), des exigences NFPA 70E relatives aux arcs électriques et des procédures de consignation/déconsignation (LOTO)
  • Gérer les inspections qualité sur site, les audits et les points d'arrêt
  • Vérifier les habilitations, certifications et conformité des EPI de l'ensemble du personnel de chantier
  • Exercer sans hésitation le Droit de Retrait / Arrêt des Travaux dès l'identification d'une situation dangereuse
  • Porter et promouvoir la culture Zéro Accident de GE Vernova à chaque niveau d'activité sur le chantier

Support technique aux achats & approvisionnements
  • Rédiger des spécifications techniques claires et des dossiers de plans pour soutenir la sourcing et les achats de composants en Amérique du Nord
  • Définir et valider les substitutions de composants lorsque les pièces européennes ne sont pas disponibles ou non conformes en Amérique du Nord
  • Contribuer aux demandes d'achat, aux évaluations techniques d'offres et aux clarifications fournisseurs
  • Coordonner avec les fournisseurs pour confirmer l'adéquation, la fonction, la certification et la conformité des matériaux sélectionnés


Coaching & développement des équipes
  • Encadrer et accompagner le développement des ingénieurs terrain juniors, superviseurs et techniciens, et assurer la formation des clients
  • Partager son expertise terrain, ses connaissances techniques et ses bonnes pratiques au sein de l'équipe

Expertise technique
  • Expérience terrain confirmée en installation, assemblage, maintenance, réparation et retrofit de postes GIS (69 kV - 800 kV)
  • Capacité à lire, interpréter, annoter et réviser des plans mécaniques, schémas électriques, plans de contrôle-commande, schémas de câblage et procédures d'installation
  • Connaissance opérationnelle des Armoires de Contrôle Local (LCC) et des systèmes secondaires / de contrôle
  • Aptitude à convertir la documentation d'ingénierie des standards européens vers les standards nord-américains
  • Connaissance de la philosophie de contrôle de disjoncteurs haute tension et de la conception des structures de support mécaniques
  • Expérience dans la documentation achats : nomenclatures (BOM), spécifications techniques et listes de fournisseurs approuvés
  • Solide compréhension des exigences en matière de qualité, d'essais et de documentation de réception

Sécurité & conformité réglementaire
  • Maîtrise approfondie des normes OSHA (29 CFR 1910 / 1926), NFPA 70E et des procédures LOTO
