Full Job Description
Job Summary -- Essential Functions/Duties

This position is in support of the National Space Test and Training Complex located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Under general supervision of a senior-level engineer, a Field Engineer II performs a variety of fundamental field engineering tasks involved in the installation, operations, testing, and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems

Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties:
  • Conduct research and reference reading to assist higher-level engineers in obtaining technical information
  • Apply knowledge of design specifications for more complex systems/projects. This will include all of our mission areas ranging from the Space Range Operations Center, Range Close Loop Environment, and Transportable Range Operations Center.
  • Support may be requested to design, develop, and integrate emerging capabilities for Orbital Warfare, Electronic Warfare, Cyber and Digital capabilities.
  • Will support NSTTC system site surveys and integration of new capability.
  • Keep informed of and study currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to engineering specialty
  • Perform engineering or other highly technical tasks that are varied and may be somewhat difficult in character
  • Plan and carry out successive engineering steps and resolve technical problems by standard practices and techniques, such as tolerance studies and design calculations
  • Support projects with limited scope or parts of more complex projects with detailed instructions on the intent and scope of the documents to be prepared
  • Generate sections of design specifications of more complex projects or complete specifications of less complex projects
  • Using computer-assisted test methods, conduct laboratory investigations on equipment or systems
  • Assist in preparation of reports, correspondence, or technical studies
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical presentations for in-process design and review meetings
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required.

SALARY

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 to $107,000 annually.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting and use of a computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing, and editing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; and constant mental alertness are required.

Travel to remote company work locations may be required.

Requirements -- Education, Technical, and Work Experience

An associate's degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or formal academic/vocational/military training and a minimum of 7 years of technical/professional experience in the specialty field are required for this position.

In addition, a Field Engineer II must possess the following qualifications:
  • Professional knowledge of applicable engineering concepts and principles and familiarity with related engineering fields
  • Practical knowledge of test methods and practices sufficient to perform routine to more complex engineering procedures and to prepare or make minor modifications of standard test procedures or test equipment work instructions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • A working knowledge of Frequency Division Multiple Access and Time Division Multiple Access satellite routed signals/networks to include any teleport and distant end configuration of various very small aperture terminal systems manufacturers
  • Practical knowledge of satellite communications (SATCOM) theories to include directional and electronically steered antennas, high power amplifiers, up/down converters, feed horns, satellite communications payloads, and other equipment used in transmitting and receiving SATCOM
  • Desired previous experience as a former SATCOM technician and/or electromagnetic warfare operator
  • Planning/organizational skills.
