Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Field Construction Manager to join our team at K&A Power Group in Boston and Worcester, MA area. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. The successful candidate will bring substantial field construction expertise across both civil and electrical scopes and will be capable of making sound technical and construction-related decisions in the field. This individual will work closely with project management, engineering, contractors, utility representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure construction is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved designs, specifications, schedules, and applicable Massachusetts codes and standards. Role Expectations:
  • Provide day-to-day field construction management and oversight for substation and underground transmission projects.
  • Manage and coordinate civil construction activities, including site development, excavation, grading, drainage, foundations, duct banks, trenches, equipment pads, structural work, and related scopes.
  • Oversee electrical construction activities, including substation equipment installation, grounding systems, conduit and cable systems, underground transmission cable installation, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, work packages, and field conditions and provide practical technical input.
  • Make or support technical field decisions when construction conditions require timely resolution, coordinating with engineering when formal design changes or engineering approval are required.
  • Monitor contractor performance, construction quality, productivity, schedule, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Identify field conflicts, constructability issues, safety concerns, and potential schedule impacts and drive them toward timely resolution.
  • Coordinate construction interfaces among civil, electrical, transmission, engineering, testing/commissioning, and utility teams.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with applicable Massachusetts building, electrical, environmental, safety, and utility requirements, as well as applicable industry standards.
  • Participate in construction meetings, field inspections, progress reviews, outage coordination, and project closeout activities. Maintain accurate field documentation and communicate construction status, risks, issues, and required decisions to project leadership.
What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred; extensive directly relevant field experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years of directly relevant field construction experience, with significant experience in electrical utility infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience with the construction of electrical substations
  • Experience with underground high-voltage/transmission cable construction and associated civil infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of both civil and electrical construction practices associated with utility and substation projects.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction specifications, electrical one-lines, civil plans, and construction work packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate field conditions and make informed technical and construction decisions.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Massachusetts construction codes and requirements, including those relevant to substation, civil, and electrical construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety, quality control, constructability, scheduling, and contractor coordination.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, project managers, utility personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience working directly for or supporting an electric utility, EPC contractor, or utility engineering/construction organization.
  • Experience with brownfield and greenfield substation projects, including expansion or modification of energized facilities.
  • Familiarity with utility outage coordination, testing, commissioning, and energization activities.
  • OSHA construction safety training and other applicable utility/construction certifications.
  • Valid and Good Standing Driver's License
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Greater Boston• Worcester area.
Pay Range $70.00• $80.00/hour The salary range for this role considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to technical ability, experience and training, licenses and certifications, and other related skillsets. The disclosed range is an estimate and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
