Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Field Construction Manager to join our team at K&A Engineering in Augusta, Maine. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:
  • Field Support to Fix Problems - Being Proactive
  • Must do Reporting - Weekly Report, Monthly Reports, site weekly minutes of meetings.
  • Monitor Schedule - Look Ahead vs. PM
  • Must attend the contractor's safety, environment and Quality meetings; provide a tip in the onsite meeting.
  • Keep on site and updated the H&S, Environment and Quality project binder.
  • FCM must be organized, must document everything to provide a good paper trail
  • Work in the preparation of Final File.
  • Must review contractor invoices and schedules.
  • Conduct weekly project progress meeting. Request the contractor two week look ahead schedule at each weekly meeting.
  • Must be always On-site whenever work is being performed (make frequent observation of contractor's activities and adherence to M&PT when in public ROW). Immediate notification to PM of any and all problems or foreseeable issues throughout construction or any complaint presented by the general public.
  • Coordinate Material delivery between the client's Stockroom, and Contractor.
  • Inspect all project related construction material for damage and completeness for the project execution
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications, quality and adherence to construction schedules.
  • Facilitate resolving construction problems, discrepancies, procedures, and methods by working with engineering personnel, inspectors, contractors and suppliers. Must have strong communications skills.
  • Minimize Change Orders. Support Project Manager Services to review any requested Change Orders/Notices or other claims submitted by Construction Contractors which relate to additional payments, schedule adjustments or other modifications to the Project, and make such recommendations to the utility regarding the legitimacy of such claims and review the Construction Contractor's proposed mitigation.
  • Review and understand the project Documentation and any related documentation and provide input to enhance the constructability of the Project, taking into account schedule, cost and quality considerations.
  • Maintain a project change order and correspondence log
  • Maintain a daily on-site as-build project plan
  • Continuously communicate (written and verbally) with the associated PM
  • Coordinate as necessary with all local and state municipalities throughout project execution
  • Ensure all CIP/NERC requirements are maintained throughout the project execution
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging open communication, reporting unsafe conditions, and suggesting improvements to safety practices.
  • Diligently ensure compliance with safety regulations, conducting safety inspections, and identifying potential hazards to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.

What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent education with 10 years relevant experience required.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive related electric utility industry experience, with transmission facilities construction management experience preferred.
  • Five (5) years' experience in a supervisory capacity preferred
  • Knowledge of NRA clearances and switching orders would be beneficial
  • Must be an Authorized Person approved by both Divisions (Binghamton and Elmira) to hold Clearances, Assurances, and Permissions and can complete the appropriate documentation.
  • Communications with ECC.
  • SCADA and UC&M switching and tagging procedures. All tags must be verified by the FCM.
  • Procedural and safety requirements to work 115 kV hot.
  • Safety requirements to work on 115 kV structures under a DNO including fault currents and clearing time.
  • AVANGRID's procedures, incident, daily, weekly reports, and computer familiarity.
  • One Line drawings, circuit maps, and the devices shown.
  • Assists with the iTOA process.
  • Detailed work experience in electrical Utility transmission UV/OV & civil construction
  • Knowledge of GPS Systems & knowledge of SAP is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings and convey interpretations to contractors
  • Ability to investigate and solve construction problems in a timely manner with minimum dependence on others
  • Computer and Administrative skills
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must have current US Work authorization and valid US Driver License in good standing

Pay Range $50.00-$58.00/an hour

The salary range for this role considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to technical ability, experience and training, licenses and certifications, and other related skillsets. The disclosed range is an estimate and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
