About the role:

The Field Clinical Engineer acts as a liaison between Boston Scientific Neuromodulation and clinical research study centers to help ensure the quality of patient care, data integrity and regulatory compliance in accordance with clinical protocol requirements.

This role will primarily support clinical study sites within an assigned region and may require travel throughout the U.S. and internationally on occasion. The Field Clinical Engineer will work primarily in clinical environments, including hospitals, surgical centers and physician clinics, and may encounter risks associated with these settings, including proximity to biohazardous materials, infectious diseases and radiation. This role requires up to 75% travel on an episodic basis.

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

This is a remote role that requires regular travel to clinical study sites and other locations based on business needs. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a remote environment while supporting clinical sites within their assigned region. Sponsorship and relocation eligibility will be determined in accordance with Boston Scientific policies and the requirements of this position.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Participate in the development of clinical study deliverables, including protocol design, source documentation, work instructions, patient recruitment materials and product training.
  • Assist with the clinical site selection process, including field technical assessments.
  • Support internal core teams and external clinical sites with product and protocol training, patient recruitment, device management, device programming, device troubleshooting, regulatory compliance, complaint reporting and data management.
  • Support internal cross-functional teams throughout the product development process, including market and functional specifications, risk management, verification and validation testing, and documentation.
  • Contribute to product intellectual property submissions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve product issues in the field.
  • Provide product and technical training to internal and external customers.
  • Effectively communicate corporate objectives and policies to external clinical sites.
  • Report site activity through internal channels to support effective data collection, patient safety, regulatory compliance and product development.
  • Assist with writing, reviewing, submitting and presenting internally or externally generated scientific literature, including abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Confer regularly with physicians and clinical staff regarding protocols, products and patient-related issues.
  • Attend seminars and conferences and communicate relevant findings to internal stakeholders.


Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • Coursework or documented training in basic engineering, neurosciences, implantable device support, including implantation and programming, and human anatomy and physiology.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a relevant technical or biomedical field, including managing relationships with physicians and participating in surgical procedures as a technical adviser.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a technical or biomedical field may substitute for a master's degree in a related field.
  • Ability to fulfill and maintain background and health requirements necessary to gain access to clinical study centers, including surgical procedure locations.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
