Overview

We are seeking a motivated Fellow Mechanical Process Design Engineer to contribute to our mission supporting our work at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions in Aiken, SC.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
  • Primary responsibilities include: Engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices to develop solutions for a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements.
  • Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures.
  • Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Education and Licensure
  • An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience. OR A MS degree and 12 years' experience. OR A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship.(required)
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance.(required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as aProfessional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.

  • The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities.

  • Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation. Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

  • Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & LOCATION DETAILS:

  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
  • Previous SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures.
  • Mon- Thurs 6:45am-5:15pm EST
  • Onsite or Remote? 100% onsite. Local candidates or willing to relocate at the candidate's expense.

  • Duration of the Contract: (1) year with the option to extend for (2) additional (1) year option years.
