Duties and ResponsibilitiesApply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields and use other technical resources within the company to resolve complex problems.
Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in functional areas of technical expertise.
Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.
Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
Lead task teams to develop solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.
Prepare reports for external publication
Education:An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience. OR A MS degree and 12 years' experience. OR A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.
Additional Education BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
Experience/Skills: Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. This contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in field.
Additional Duties - Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
- Primary responsibilities include:
- Engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and
Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis;
Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC
Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

- Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures.
- Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Additional Experience Qualifications - The following experience/skills are a requirement for this position:
- The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry. The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities.
- Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.
- The following qualifications are preferred for this position:
- Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
- is preferred.
- Previous SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures are preferred.
Additional Work Requirements - Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing
Work Environment / Physical Demands:Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Light to moderate lifting may be required for packages and other items, ability to walk short distances, may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
