Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, some nights and weekends possible

** A RESUME IS A REQUIRED ATTACHMENT WITH YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION. **SummaryThis position is responsible for supervising the operations, activities, programs, and staff at the Cochran Street Recreation Center division of the Recreation & Economic Vitality Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Schedules and supervises the operation of the Recreation Center providing a variety of recreation programs suited to the needs of participants.
- Schedules and supervises use of the facility; enforces rules and regulations; maintains order and discipline.
- Conducts public relations for the Recreation Center, publicizes events and special activities, and maintains contact with various community groups and organizations.
- Actively markets memberships through a variety of approaches and avenues.
- Coordinates programs and special events.
- Assists with the Special Olympics; coordinates city-wide programs, trips, classes, etc.
- Rents recreation center for meetings, parties, and other special events.
- Ensures proper set-up of the center for rentals and programs; registers participants.
- Maintains registration and membership files and attendance reports.
- Prepares statistical reports on programs and events, memberships, rentals, etc.
- Collects and accounts for registration and membership fees daily.
- Ensures maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities and equipment.
- Recruits, hires, and supervises instructors, volunteers, and part-time staff.
- Supervises work of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees; conducts periodic evaluations and is responsible for payroll.
- Supports staff in maintaining accurate daily attendance counts and completing weekly reports.
- Interacts with current and/or prospective members by giving tours, explaining policies and procedures, and demonstrating the use of equipment.
- Assists in preparation of the recreation center budget.
- Conducts staff meetings and other training sessions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Education and/or Experience- Bachelor's degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Recreation Management, or closely related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in organized recreational programs.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience.
Requirements- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license, or any valid driver's license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver's license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
- Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Job Related Physical RequirementsThis position involves medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and to convey detailed or important instructions to others; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
