Description

SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Facility Operations Foreman in Middletown, RI to lead a team of technicians in a fast-paced industrial Navy testing lab. The candidate will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and technicians working together to upgrade, configure, maintain and operate the Propulsion Test Facility (PTF), an advanced industrial facility specializing in the test and evaluation of torpedo mechanical systems including propulsion, combustion, and fluid pump and control systems.

The primary work focus will involve coordinating the repair, reconfiguration, setup, testing, and turnaround work activities of your technician team to ensure facility readiness and optimal torpedo testing throughput. Your team will be responsible for electrical and mechanical modifications to complex and specialized test systems and facility infrastructure involving industrial equipment such as piping and valving of fluid, air, and exhaust, including processing of exhaust gasses and collection of hazardous liquid waste; motors, and pumps; complex test and automation systems including VFDs, PLCs, PIDs, PXIs, cRIOs, a variety of sensors including pressure, flow, temperature, signal conditioning, and custom data acquisition and control systems with GUI interfaces.

The candidate will work alongside their technician team to learn a complex facility and the various mechanical and electrical processes involved in running that facility. They will also work closely with the O&M manager to learn of upcoming testing needs, and changes in priority. They will deploy their team to meet testing goals while also responding to emergent facility issues, repairs, and reprioritizations, and communicate schedules and status to the O&M manager to keep the customers informed. The candidate will perform duties as assigned from hands on technical installs and repairs to team management and scheduling.

Job Duties:
  • Lead a group of technicians through a variety of PTF tasking.
  • Maintain schedule deadlines with a variety of projects.
  • Work directly with O&M Manager for PTF priorities.
  • Ability to understand technical data packages for facility and testing systems.
  • Must be able to work within a heavily regulated field.
  • Ability to perform hands on electrical and mechanical installs.
  • Possess a technical understanding of various systems and lead troubleshooting tasks
  • Tasking will include project management tasks assigned.
  • Interface with Facility Scheduler, Facility Manager, Inventory Lead, and Logistics.
  • Work directly with vendors and manufacturers for on-site third-party system services.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment while completing tasks in an unsupervised and self-directed fashion.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an efficient and organized operating facility.
  • Provide valuable recommendations for facility and process improvements.
  • Must be able to work in a mixed environment (Indoors and Outdoors).
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs and work safely with explosives and a variety of chemicals.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience; years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience leading / supervising a team of technicians.
  • Experience with managing an industrial operation.
  • Experience working with diverse teams, including engineering, logistics / procurement, suppliers and customers.
  • Experience with the utilization of procedures and technical drawings.
  • Must be able to comprehend advanced mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Must be familiar with and be able to perform technical repairs on a variety of systems.
  • Must be a US citizen able to obtain clearance up to the level of SECRET.
Preferred:
  • Project or production management experience.
  • OSHA 10.
  • Lock Out Tag Out Experience.
  • Experience with Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry.
  • Familiarity with fluids, pneumatics, pumps, valves, electrical and control systems.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced customer-facing environment.
  • Experience with MK48 or 54 torpedo operations.
