Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Experienced Product Owner owns a defined feature or component area within a SaaS or enterprise software product, with emphasis on financial services, life insurance, and/or annuities where relevant. Partners with Product Managers to translate product vision, strategy, and scope into executable backlog items; writes clear requirements and acceptance criteria; supports Agile delivery ceremonies; and makes day-to-day prioritization decisions that balance customer needs, business value, technical constraints, and delivery commitments with moderate supervision.

Product Discovery & Customer Insight:

  • Support discovery for owned features by gathering customer, stakeholder, operational, analytics, document, and interview inputs; summarize insights that preserve the voice of the customer and inform prioritization and delivery decisions.
  • Translate business needs into clear, concise, complete, feasible, and testable requirements for a defined feature/component; communicate scope, trade-offs, expected outcomes, quality benchmarks, external interfaces, and constraints to ensure shared understanding.

Stakeholder Alignment & Management:

  • Build strong working relationships with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, Engineering, QA, Design, project managers, Support, and business stakeholders for owned work; facilitate alignment when dependencies affect the feature/component scope.
  • Create concise product summaries and presentations that connect scope, outcomes, customer impact, and delivery commitments; translate technical information for customers, end users, internal stakeholders, and management audiences.

Backlog Prioritization:

  • Own backlog hygiene and prioritization for a defined feature/component in Jira, using business value, customer impact, strategic objectives, risk, effort, and delivery commitments to guide sequencing.
  • Write well-formed user stories, functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation; decompose higher-level customer and end-user needs into implementable detail and resolve ambiguity before development begins.
  • Maintain a lightweight dependency, risk, blocker, and requirements-status view for the owned scope; communicate impacts, manage changes to baseline requirements, and propose sequencing options.

Sprint Planning:

  • Participate actively in sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives; ensure priorities, requirements, acceptance criteria, and expected outcomes are clear to the team.
  • Partner with the Scrum Master and delivery team to confirm Definition of Ready/Done, testability, and planning inputs for stories in the owned scope.
  • Make day-to-day prioritization decisions for owned work, balancing customer needs, business goals, technical constraints, and delivery commitments; escalate unresolved trade-offs appropriately.

Release Readiness:

  • Confirm stories meet acceptance criteria, Definition of Done, and agreed quality benchmarks before release; contribute to go/no-go inputs, release notes, rollback considerations, and change-control expectations for the owned feature/component.
  • Partner with QA, Engineering, Support, Documentation, and Compliance to validate delivered functionality against expected outcomes and consolidate release readiness inputs.
  • Track success metrics, customer feedback, defects, and operational signals for owned work; use evidence to support release communications and identify follow-on improvements.

Metrics, Outcomes, & ROI:

  • Define and monitor success metrics for owned features, including adoption, completion, quality, flow, customer feedback, and operational indicators; use insights to recommend backlog adjustments.
  • Contribute to lightweight business cases and value assessments for features; report realized value against expected customer and business outcomes after release.

Documentation & Enablement:

  • Produce and maintain requirements documentation, supporting models or prototype layouts when helpful, user-facing help, release notes, and internal enablement content for owned features.
  • Execute concise handoffs to Support and Customer Success, ensuring known behaviors, limits, customer impacts, and operational considerations are documented.

Post-release learning & Iteration:

  • Run lightweight post-release reviews for owned features; convert customer feedback, defects, metric learnings, and new practices into prioritized backlog items for future work.
  • Monitor early-use telemetry, support feedback, and customer signals to recommend improvements that increase customer satisfaction, adoption, and business outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Typically requires 3+ years of relevant professional experience delivering software in an agile environment; experience in financial services, life insurance, and/or annuities preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SaaS or enterprise software delivery, customer workflows, market needs, business objectives, financial services concepts, and life insurance and/or annuities domains preferred; understands compliance considerations and operational impacts sufficient to inform prioritization decisions.
  • Experience planning and sequencing stories for a defined scope, participating in Agile ceremonies, and partnering with Scrum Masters and delivery teams to remove routine blockers.
  • Experience working with Engineering, Architecture, Design, QA, Support, Compliance, and Product Management to validate delivered functionality, manage dependencies, and support release readiness.
  • Voice of Customer and customer context: Salesforce-connected content; customer/stakeholder feedback captured through Microsoft 365 sources as applicable.
  • Experience with Jira for Agile planning and work tracking, including:
    • Experience owning a feature/component backlog in Jira, co-facilitating backlog refinement, and producing clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation that reduce ambiguity before development begins.
    • Road mapping and portfolio visibility: Jira product/roadmap views and Product Management planning artifacts.
    • Release/change and DevOps visibility: Jira release notes and standard release artifacts; coordinate with Engineering/QA tooling as needed for owned scope.
    • Test and quality management: Jira-based story acceptance, defect linkage, and release readiness evidence; coordinate with QA on test evidence for owned scope.
    • Dependency and service catalog: lightweight dependency views in Jira and shared Product Management planning artifacts for owned feature/component scope.
  • Diagramming and design collaboration: experience with Figma and Confluence persona boards, shared Microsoft 365/SharePoint materials for story mapping and discovery artifacts.
  • Product analytics & BI: experience with Power BI and Salesforce-connected content; Jira metrics, retrospectives, and feedback to support prioritization and process improvement.
  • Experimentation and feature management: approved discovery experiments/prototypes and Product Management single-source-of-truth workflows when available.
  • API and integration context knowledge: understands API/contract dependencies for owned stories and experience coordinating details with Engineering using Jira and shared technical documentation.
  • Experience with SharePoint, OneDrive, OneNote, and Confluence for documentation and knowledge management.
