Responsibilities

Description:
As a Mechanical Engineer at Eastman, you will provide innovative technical support for our global sites and our technology organization. In this role, you will apply a broad range of engineering and communication skills to a diverse portfolio of initiatives, ranging from rapid-turnaround assignments to large-scale, long-range strategic projects. This position requires an in-depth understanding of mechanical engineering principles, along with a strong commitment to team-oriented success.

In this role, you will:
• Collaborate closely with maintenance, development, and manufacturing teams to assist the operating unit in achieving its production, reliability, and maintenance objectives. Be responsible for a diverse workload and management of engineering projects from initial response to completion
• Provide project management and engineering support for projects
• Generate improvement ideas and designs
• Summarize the issue being addressed and resolution plans for high level management review
• Be self-driven and able to complete projects in a variety of execution environments, both inside and outside of Kingsport site
• Work in both design office and operating plant environments

Expectations:
• Collaborating with others in a multi-disciplined group or team environment
• Organizing and championing broader efforts semi-autonomously
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify and develop innovative solutions, leveraging your background in mechanical engineering
• Developing of and adhering to Eastman's engineering standards
• Developing capital project scope, estimated cost, engineering design and generation of construction packages
• Communicating with Construction to ensure desired outcomes are achieved
• Partnering with Operations and Maintenance to identify and troubleshoot issues
• Identifying cost savings and improvement opportunities
• Understanding Eastman's processes for executing work including large gap analysis or study jobs, Management of Change (MOCs), Work Orders, Small Capital Projects and larger SER capital projects
• Mentoring and onboarding of less experienced mechanical staff

Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university required
• Minimum 4 years relevant professional experience required
• Proficiency with engineering tools: laser scanning, SolidWorks, MicroStation, P&IDs, Microsoft Suite, desired.
• Working knowledge of chemical processing equipment such as rotating equipment (pumps, fans, compressors, ventilation,), piping and piping components (manual and automated valves, orifice plates, flow measuring devices, flange design) pressure vessels (relieve devices, vent designs) and materials knowledge (metals, gaskets, coatings, linings) is a plus
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
• Strong engineering process mindset, technical proficiency and problem-solving skills
