This Opportunity

WSP is seeking an Experienced Geologist with 3 or more years consulting experience to join our Alaska Team. We offer flexible working arrangements to help with work/life balance, and have an office in Anchorage, Alaska.
WSP's Alaska Team offers multi-disciplinary projects including geotechnical investigations, near-surface geophysical investigations, geological mapping projects, and related services to a diverse set of clients, including industrial/commercial companies, local and state agencies, and the federal government. Project locations range from local to statewide. We have in-house experts in engineering, environmental remediation, and graphics/GIS who support Alaskan projects, and have access to subject matter experts worldwide. The position requires a self-motivated candidate able to work as part of local, regional, or national project teams.

Your Impact
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients by providing technical expertise, attending client meetings and leading project development pursuits
  • Supervise and manage geologists to perform geologic and/or geotechnical investigations
  • Plan and manage simple and complex subsurface field geologic exploration programs including geotechnical drilling and test pit explorations
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, or similar data obtained during field investigations to develop conceptual geologic models
  • Review geologic samples and geologic unit identification, assign laboratory testing, and supervise the preparation of exploration records
  • Provide direction on the installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP's, inclinometers, transducers etc)
  • Interpret geologic data and write geotechnical and geologic reports
  • Conduct geologic research, write project proposals and reports
  • Provide technical direction and oversight as well as mentoring and training to junior-level staff
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. or higher in Geology, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, or related discipline
  • 3 or more years of geology (or related) consulting experience
  • Willing to work in the field conducting physically rigorous geologic data collection in a variety of terrain and weather conditions
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with demonstrated report writing skills
  • Consistent and highly accurate project work
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
  • Comfortable working within both small and large project teams to achieve objectives
  • Flexible to work outside of business hours, when necessary
  • Proficiency with MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook, in particular
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree is preferred
  • Professional geologist registration
  • Experience managing complex subsurface investigations including geotechnical drilling, soil classification, monitoring well installation and instrumentation
  • Experience managing mid to large-size, multi-disciplinary projects
  • Specialized computer skills including database applications, ArcGIS, and gINT (or similar platform)
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired
