Position Description:

The Executive Director of Transportation oversees all student transportation in the Jefferson Parish Schools (JPS). The Executive Director of Transportation is responsible for ensuring that students travel safely and efficiently to and from school and school-relatedactivities.TheExecutiveDirectorofTransportationdirectsandcoordinatestheSchedulingandRouteCoordinationteamsoftheTransportationDepartment.Thepositioncanrequireextendoroncallworkhoursduetoemergenciesorextenuatingcircumstancesrelatedtosafetyoroperationalroutine.

Reports To:

Chief Operations Officer

Scope of Responsibility:
  • WorkscloselywiththeChiefOperationsOfficertodrivethemission,vision,andasetofmeasurableobjectivesfortheTransportation
  • HoldstheTransportationDepartmentteamsaccountableformeetingtheirobjectivesandconductsformalperformanceevaluationsinaccordancewiththeJPSevaluationscheduleforcentraloffice
  • PresentsprogressreportsoneachteamtotheChiefOperations
  • EnsuresthattheTransportationDepartmentisincompliancewithfederalstatutesandregulations,statelaws,BoardofElementaryandSecondaryEducationrulesandregulations,JPSpoliciesandprocedures,andrelevantcontractual
  • Develops an efficient, cost-effectivetransportationschedulethatbringsstudentstoandfromtheirdestinationsinatimelyandsafe
  • Establishestransportationplansforemergency
  • Resolves transportation-relatedincidentsandcomplaints while ensuring that all providers deliver high-quality services.
  • Ensures accurate and timely communication regarding transportation news and incidents with key stakeholders, including principals, teachers, parents, and
  • Ensuresthatallstudenttransportvehiclesareinspectedonschedule,receivemaintenanceasneeded,andmeetsafety
  • Establishespoliciesandpracticestoensurethesafetyofstudentsandtransportationpersonnelwhilestudentsarein
  • Ensuresthatallstudentswhorequireauxiliaryassistanceintransportreceivenecessary
  • Works closely with the Chief Financial Officer to prepare and administer the annual Transportation Department budget and exercises proper financial controls.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Master'sdegreeinAdministration,Urban/RegionalPlanning,orTransportation
  • Workingknowledgeofcomputer
  • Knowledge of the school system policies and
  • Extensiveexperienceinstudenttransportation
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • CDL will be required within 6-12 months of employment.


Physical Involvement:

Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, lifting up to 40poundsissometimesrequired.Musthaveabilitytoprovideowntransportationtoschools,worklocations,andmeetingsites.Mobilityskillsnecessarytoaccessavarietyofworklocations. Must be able to passed physical requirements to operate a bus.
