Description

The Executive Director of Online and Extended Campus provides strategic and operational leadership for Southern Illinois University Carbondale's online education, extended campus, degree-completion, military-affiliated student, continuing education, and distance learning initiatives. Working in partnership with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Educational Partnerships, the position oversees program development, assessment, budget administration, personnel management, external partnerships, and enrollment growth strategies. The Executive Director collaborates with academic and administrative leaders to expand access, improve student success outcomes, strengthen educational partnerships, and advance the university's strategic objectives related to enrollment, workforce development, academic innovation, and lifelong learning.

Examples of Duties

  • Work with the AVC of Educational Partnerships (EP) to administer and supervise Online and Extended Campus office and initiatives, and coordinate with the AVC of EP a budget of approximately $4 million, including online, off-campus and military programs.
  • The administrator will work with the AVC of EP to provide collaborative leadership in development and delivery of high quality online, degree completion, off-campus, distance education (e.g., RisePoint) and continuing education initiatives.
  • Work in conjunction with the AVC of EP to develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive strategic enrollment plan.
  • Work with the AVC of EP to prepare strategic fiscal planning including budgeting, major expenditure decisions and inventory.
  • Work with the AVC of EP to oversee preparation of budget information, assessment data, and narrative statements for reporting to the University and outside entities.
  • Serve as an institutional representative to external partners as needed.
  • Work with the AVC of EP to coordinate with academic administrators at all levels on matters of program delivery and curriculum development for online, distance, off-campus, degree-completion, and continuing education.
  • Advise the AVC of EP on potential collaborations with colleges and units in establishing new online and distance education programs.
  • Under the direction of the AVC of EP, the ED for Online and Extended Campuses will provide strategy for online, off-campus/distance education program development in service of the University's goals of recruitment, retention, program assessment, degree completion, and continuing education.
  • In coordination with the AVC for EP, plan for future goals, programmatic directions, and focus for Online and Extended Campus.
  • Direct and oversee assessment of courses and programs delivered to off-campus locations or through online and distance education.
  • Hire, assign, evaluate, and train personnel. Conduct annual reviews.
  • Establish effective communication with University academic units and associate provost for academic programs to maintain effective service.
  • In coordination with the AVC of EP, administer continuing education activities, through coordination with outside agencies, academic, and other units on campus.
  • Work with the AVC of EP to coordinate third-party agreements with public and private sector employers at off-campus locations, including preparation of memoranda of understandings.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree with record commensurate with a high-profile executive director position.
  • Three years of employment in higher education which includes experience with the review process for obtaining approval of state boards and/or regional accrediting associations for new distance education courses and programs.
  • Three-years' experience in higher education that includes development and coordination of distance education courses and programs (online and/or off-campus).
  • One year of experience supervising at least five employees.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years employment in higher education with experience as noted in minimums.
  • Five-years' experience supervising at least five employees.
