Position Summary

The Executive Director of Professional and Academic Excellence leads college-wide efforts to strengthen employee development, teaching and learning, and outcomes assessment. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators, the Executive Director develops professional learning opportunities, supports assessment processes, and promotes the use of data and best practices to enhance student achievement, institutional effectiveness, and accreditation compliance.
Salary: Appropriate placement on B: $104,973 - $149,416

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership, coordination, and planning for professional development for faculty and staff.
  2. Coordinate with Academic Affairs and Human Resources to establish, implement, and conduct a structured professional development program.
  3. Develop, implement, and conduct a leadership development program for college employees.
  4. Train and consult with faculty on writing program student learning outcomes, selecting measures, interpreting results, and developing improvement plans.
  5. Review annual program assessment reports and provide feedback to program leads, department chairs, and deans.
  6. Collaborate with Academic Affairs to coordinate college-wide teaching and learning initiatives for the college that are based on nationally recognized best practices and improve the quality and delivery of academic programs and services.
  7. Collaborate with various units across campus that employ staff to identify and create professional development needed for staff.
  8. Work in conjunction with the Dual Enrollment Director to provide orientation, training, and evaluation of dual enrollment faculty.
  9. Work closely with the instructional deans to guide new faculty in building a teaching portfolio for tenure recommendation.
  10. Collaborate with the Director of Distance Learning on faculty training for online course quality standards and instructional technology.
  11. Assist with processes for general education student learning outcomes, academic and student services outcomes, and administrative outcomes as needed.
  12. Coordinate annual faculty and staff development events and recognition programs.
  13. Develop and maintain systems for tracking, evaluating, and reporting professional development participation and effectiveness.
  14. Maintain a repository of faculty and staff resources.
  15. Supervise assigned staff, to include setting appropriate expectations and evaluating performance based on those expectations.
  16. Perform other tasks assigned by the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years' experience in teaching or instruction at the postsecondary level is required.
  3. Documented experience with student learning outcomes assessment is required.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:
  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
Note: Employee is vested after 10 years in Retirement
