Position AnnouncementThe Executive Director of Business Services serves as the institution's Treasurer and provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the University's core financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury operations, and related compliance functions. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Business and Auxiliary Services, this position ensures the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of the University's financial records and internal control environment.
The position leads continuous process improvement initiatives, supports enterprise-wide financial systems, and collaborates across campus to advance the University's mission and strategic goals. Additional information about the department can be found online at
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and direct supervision for accounting, student finance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and financial reporting functions.
- Oversee treasury-related activities including cash management, banking relationships, and liquidity monitoring.
- Provide accounting support and direction to the University's Foundation(s).
- Coordinate and prepare annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards.
- Lead fiscal year-end close processes and coordinate external audit activities.
- Ensure integrity and governance of the University's chart of accounts and financial approval workflows, and records retention.
- Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and reporting requirements.
- Provide leadership in implementation, optimization, and maintenance of enterprise financial systems (e.g., ERP platforms such as Ellucian Banner).
- Develop and mentor high-performing teams; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Provide training and guidance to campus budget officers and departments regarding financial policies, procedures, and systems.
- Serve on institutional committees and represent Business Services in campus-wide initiatives.
- Serves as the second-in-command and primary backup to the Assistant Vice President (AVP), providing leadership support, overseeing operations in the AVP's absence, and ensuring continuity of departmental functions and responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of institutional objectives.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in accounting, as well as Masters of Accountancy or closely-related degree, required. CPA certification preferred. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- CPA certification or willingness to pursue CPA certification.
- At least five (5) years' direct accounting experience, with progressively higher levels of responsibility including team leadership, required. Experience in higher education accounting is preferred. The total qualifications required are based on a combination of education and work experience. Any experience used to meet the education requirement cannot also be used to meet the work experience requirement.
- Extensive knowledge in the use of Microsoft office products, in particular Excel and Access.
- Extensive experience in the use of Banner and Banner Modules, including FR, AP, AR, and Fixed Assets, or equivalent systems.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- An eagerness to engage with colleagues, to develop ways to improve the Business office policies and procedures.
- Good knowledge of accounting rules and regulations as they apply to higher education.
Supplemental InformationPOSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $120,000+, with a desired start date of January 2027.
