  1. Education:
    • Current Arkansas licensure as a registered nurse required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required
    • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  1. Training and Experience:
    • Minimum seven (7) years progressive healthcare leadership experience required.
    • Minimum five (5) years leadership in emergency, critical care, or hospital operations preferred.
    • Multi-department leadership responsibility strongly preferred.
    • Experience in rural health systems and high-volume emergency operations preferred.
  1. Certifications:
  • BLS required
  • ACLS required
  • PALS required
  • TNCC, ENPC, CEN, NE-BC, CNML preferred
  1. Knowledge / Skills/ Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of Emergency Department operations and standards of care.
  • Knowledge of EMTALA, trauma readiness, Stroke/STEMI/sepsis protocols, and emergency preparedness.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Financial management and budget oversight skills.
  • Expertise in patient throughput, staffing models, and operational improvement.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and Arkansas Department of Health regulations.

DESCRIPTION:

The Executive Director of Emergency Services is responsible for executive leadership of the Emergency Department as the primary service line, with secondary oversight of additional assigned departments across the health system. Provides administrative leadership to Managers, Supervisors, Charge Nurses, Educators, Coordinators, and other leaders across the Emergency Department and assigned system departments. Maintains collaborative relationships with Medical Directors, Emergency Physicians, Hospitalists, EMS agencies, ancillary departments, campus leadership, and external regulatory bodies. This role ensures high-performing emergency care operations while coordinating enterprise-wide priorities related to patient access, throughput, safety, staffing, financial stewardship, and service excellence. The Executive Director is accountable for 24/7 emergency services performance, regulatory readiness, disaster preparedness, patient flow from point of entry through admission/discharge, and strategic integration of emergency operations with inpatient and ancillary services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains good physical and emotional well-being. Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist with lifting and moving patients, pushing carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment; and lifting or pushing of up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., check chest tube drainage, check urinary output, etc. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required. Trips to various departments will be required. Frequent presence in clinical and operational areas. Must be able to respond rapidly to emergent operational situations, walk extended distances, and function effectively in a fast-paced environment. The position does have some heavy exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles.
