ESL TeacherDescription:The Alternative High School ESL Teacher is responsible for implementing research-based second language acquisition strategies to teach English Learners in grades 9-12 in ESL classrooms. This Teacher is critical to the success of our Alternative School program for overaged, under-credited High School Students. The Teacher must work collaboratively with the EHS ESL Department Heads, the Assistant Principal and other Alternative School faculty throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. The ESL Teacher must be flexible and willing to meet the scheduling needs of students within the Alternative School schedule. Teachers should be well versed in the Next Generation ESL and WIDA 2020 framework on cultural responsiveness to promote equity and to differentiate for a diverse population of ELs, including SLIFE and ELs with Disabilities, Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices, and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

Required Education/Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in ESL or education
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in ESL for Grades 9-12
Preferred Education/Experience: - Master's Degree in Education, Applied Linguistics, or related field
- 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
- Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
- Experience working in an urban public school setting with high school students
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in English and a second language.

Essential Duties: - Provide individualized English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Language Learners in accordance with the Massachusetts State Frameworks and WIDA standards.
- Plan effective ESL units of study and lessons that align with WIDA and Massachusetts State Frameworks.
- Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally and linguistically relevant instructional practices.
- Plan and participate in data collection and analysis to identify target areas of EL Success Plans, instruction, and small group work.
- Collaborate and co-plan with grade-level co-teachers, including classroom teachers and Special Education inclusion teachers, to provide the highest quality instruction and support for English Learners.
- Proctor MCAS and ACCESS assessments for English Learners.
- Assist in EL paperwork management and compliance measures set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st-century skills and remote accessibility.
- Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
- Incorporate social-emotional learning standards and curriculum that promote self-confidence, team-building, and informed decision-making.
- Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.
- Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
- Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of social-emotional support.
- Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.
- Implement newly selected HQIM/ curriculum with fidelity to ensure equity and student
Outcomes. - Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events as assigned by your supervisor/assistant principal, including one-to-one and group check-ins with students, school events, daily student advisories, recognition ceremonies, and community-building activities.
SALARY:Based on the Everett Teachers Association salary scale. SY 26-27.
Pay Range - $65,178 - $125,654
