Berkshire Health Systems is seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician to join the team at North Adams Regional Hospital in North Adams, Massachusetts.
Following 10 successful years as a freestanding emergency department, North Adams Regional Hospital reopened as an 18-bed critical access hospital in 2024.
Our 14-bed Emergency Department treats approximately 18,000 patients annually, offering physicians a rewarding mix of high- and low-acuity cases. Approximately 20% of patients are admitted or transferred for additional care.
Emergency Department CoverageThe department is staffed with three 12-hour physician shifts each day:
- 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
- 12:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.
- 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
Physician coverage is supplemented by 12 hours of daily APP coverage, with single-provider coverage largely limited to overnight hours. Call obligations are minimal.
Clinical ResourcesNorth Adams Regional Hospital provides access to:
- CT and X-ray services available 24 hours a day
- Ultrasound available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
- MRI available approximately eight hours per day, seven days a week
- Hospitalist and respiratory therapy support available 24 hours a day
- In-house anesthesia coverage Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
- General surgery coverage for basic cases four days per week
- SANE-trained nurses supported by Massachusetts TeleSANE services
Collaborative Specialty SupportOur physicians benefit from strong clinical partnerships designed to quickly connect patients with the appropriate level of care:
- Acute stroke teleneurology consultation in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital
- Real-time STEMI consultation with Baystate Medical Center
- Tele-crisis clinicians supporting the care of psychiatric patients
- A strong relationship with local EMS, including a priority transfer agreement for critically ill patients
- Established transfer relationships with Berkshire Medical Center, Baystate Medical Center and Albany Medical Center
Berkshire Medical Center is approximately 45 minutes away and provides higher-level inpatient care and access to most medical and surgical subspecialties. Strong relationships with Baystate Medical Center and Albany Medical Center provide additional support for STEMI, stroke and other high-acuity patients.
