Job Description
We're seeking a skilled Equipment Technician I, II, or III, with the Pay Grade and hourly rate determined based on certifications and experience. This position will perform repair, overhaul, service, and maintenance on a wide variety of City fleet vehicles, including off-road equipment, heavy-duty trucks, utility line trucks, fire apparatus, and ambulances.
This is a 2nd shift (11:30am-8pm) position. A premium of 10% will be paid for 2nd shift work.
The hiring range for this position is $32.3516 - $46.5048 per hour, commensurate with credentials and experience. The Pay Grade for this position is N230, N240, or N245. For additional information, please click here

Duties

  • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical problems and heavy equipment with gasoline and diesel engines including hydraulic systems, computerized equipment, and pumping equipment in the shop and in the field.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance to keep down time at a minimum.
  • Maintains current and accurate records of repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintains all heavy-duty truck and off road equipment and makes necessary repairs.
  • Participates in training and remains current on latest technology and repair procedures.
  • Performs welding and fabrication on body and frame parts as well as custom built accessories and equipment.
  • Cleans work area and follows safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required

  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus additional technical training.
  • Three to five years of experience in a related field.
  • Must possess a complete set of automotive tools, including mobile storage for those tools.
  • Equipment Technician I: A minimum of two ASE Certifications
  • Equipment Technician II: Level I and Level II Fire Apparatus and Ambulance Technician certified via EVT Certification Commission (i.e., ASE A4, A5, A9, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6; EVT E0, E1, E2, E3, F1, F2, F3, F4).
  • Equipment Technician III: Level III Fire Apparatus and Ambulance Technician certified via EVT Certification Commission (i.e., City of Naperville Level II plus ASE T1, T7 and EVT E4, F5, F6).
  • A valid State of Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Must obtain a valid State of Illinois Class A CDL within six moths of hire.
