Equipment Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
  • Champion safe and environmentally responsible work practices while supporting the safety of employees, contractors and the public.
  • Provide technical guidance for Hydro's fleet, equipment and specialized tools, including light and heavy equipment, specialized vehicles and safety-related assets.
  • Support fleet replacement and equipment planning by preparing specifications, contributing to procurement and bid evaluations, coordinating build requirements, and supporting pre-build and pre-delivery inspections, upfitting and commissioning.
  • Use project schedules, cost information and risk analysis to support informed decisions and successful delivery of fleet-related work.
  • Lead develop and maintain Hydro's utility drone program, including related governance, procedures, records and operator information.
  • Lead the development of a fleet telematics program that supports safe, efficient and reliable operations.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to solve technical problems, support continuous improvement and deliver practical solutions.

What You'll Need:
  • Completion of an Engineering Bachelor's degree or Engineering Technology Diploma from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • For engineers, membership in good standing with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador is required.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience, preferably in an electrical utility environment, with experience in fleet management, drone operations or program development.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary project management, maintenance management or related technical work.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, JD Edwards, HP Content Manager, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 and maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to work in office, field, construction and industrial environments.
  • Ability to travel within and outside Canada for inspections and operational needs; travel may include airplane, helicopter, snowmobile or boat.
  • A valid driver's license and passport are required.
