DescriptionOverview:Valley Water is seeking an Equipment Mechanic II to join our Fleet team. This position performs preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide variety of fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, construction equipment, and other power-driven equipment that support Valley Water's operations.
Whether responding to equipment breakdowns, performing scheduled maintenance, or troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, you will play a critical role in ensuring our fleet remains safe, reliable, and ready to support field operations, emergency response, and essential public services.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, fueling, lubrication, and safety checks on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair gasoline, diesel, hydraulic, electrical, brake, steering, suspension, transmission, and engine systems.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and urgent repair requests to minimize downtime.
- Inspect and prepare new vehicles and equipment for service.
- Replace components, perform tune-ups, rebuild mechanical systems, and complete safety inspections.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely and effectively.
- Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, technical specifications, and repair documentation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, and parts usage.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Perform related duties as assigned in support of Fleet Operations.

Ideal Training and Education:Equipment Mechanic II- Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized training in equipment repair, diesel technology, automotive technology, mechanics, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience performing maintenance and repair of vehicles or mechanical equipment.
Required License or Certificate - Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to obtain a valid California Class A Driver's License with required endorsements within six (6) months of appointment.
