Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Excellence in Policing and Public Safety Program (EPPS) seeks an Program Director to organize and oversee the Program's activities and to report on the Program's activities to law school leadership, the Program's advisory board, and funders. The EPPS Program Director will oversee the design of a suite of educational offerings to meet the needs of South Carolina Law Enforcement Agencies, with the goal toward expansion nationally and internationally. The Program Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a process for evaluating the reception and impact of Program offerings. The Program Director will represent the Program to key external audiences such as police leaders, community advocates, state legislators, and national organizations. Paramount among these duties is the fiscal responsibility over the direct appropriations from the General Assembly to establish the Excellence in Policing programs.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.


Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's with over 20 years' experience as a certified law enforcement officer in the state of South Carolina.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership, professional development, budgeting, and strategic planning responsibilities.
  • Prior Police Chief or County Sheriff experience is preferred.
  • Experience designing and delivering training and education curricula to sworn law enforcement is also a preferred qualification.
