Full Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an Electrical Power Monitoring System Engineer (EPMS) to support a company focused on the operation and maintenance of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This position is on-site in the Ashburn, Virginia area. The Electrical Power Monitoring System Engineer will serve as the technical subject matter expert responsible for ensuring the reliability, resiliency, and performance of critical facility systems.

Responsibilities for the Data Center Facilities Technical Lead include:
  • Lead the operation, maintenance, and optimization of critical data center electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Support facility projects through design review, engineering evaluations, commissioning activities, and operational readiness assessments.
  • Review technical drawings, construction documents, and installation plans to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Utilize Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor and maintain facility performance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and third-party service vendors to execute preventative maintenance, troubleshoot system issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications for the Data Center Facilities Technical Lead include:

  • 7+ years of experience operating large-scale data center environments in a technical lead or senior individual contributor capacity.
  • Deep understanding of chiller systems, chilled water systems, air handlers, HVAC infrastructure, electrical switchgear, generators, load banks, UPS, STS, PDU, RPP, and battery systems.
  • Direct experience with the design, engineering, commissioning, and operation of data center electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data center tier rating systems, resiliency planning, and availability risk factors.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings and specifications to ensure installations align with industry standards and operational requirements.
  • Experience working with Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications preferred, including NFPA, ATS, ATO, AOS, DCDC, or similar.
Compensation for the Data Center Facilities Technical Lead include:

Salary Range: $108,000 - $145,000 depending on experience
