Job Title: Environmental Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Site Environmental Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state (including TCEQ), and local environmental regulations. This role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental programs and policies that promote sustainability, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction. The Environmental Specialist will conduct audits, manage permits, lead training, and collaborate with operations to embed environmental stewardship into daily practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, implement, and manage environmental compliance programs aligned with EPA, TCEQ, and OSHA standards.
  • Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and update environmental permits, including air, water, and waste-related authorizations.
  • Monitor and report on environmental metrics, including emissions, discharges, and waste generation.
  • Lead incident investigations related to environmental releases or violations and prepare regulatory reports.
  • Conduct Management of Change (MOC) reviews for new equipment or processes with environmental impact.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of environmental records, including SDSs, hazardous waste manifests, and SWPPP documentation.
  • Provide environmental orientation and training to new hires and existing staff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., TCEQ, EPA, local municipalities) during inspections and reporting.
  • Stay current on changes in environmental legislation and communicate implications to leadership.
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans for environmental incidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site EHS Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred), or 2+ years of equivalent experience.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
  • ISO 14001

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sedentary work: exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. This work required sitting most of the time.
  • Frequent walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching in field environments.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections in outdoor and industrial settings.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; expansive reading.
