Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

The MPLX L&S ESS&PQ Group has a full-time, exempt, opening for an Environmental Specialist. The position will lead environmental compliance efforts for a regional group of terminals, pipeline facilities, and fleets in the Griffith/Indianapolis/Robinson areas. As a member of the L&S ESS&PQ team, the Environmental Specialist works with a team of environmental compliance experts around the country to provide technical guidance on regulatory programs including air, water, and waste. Some duties include conducting environmental audits, providing training on environmental-related topics, evaluating project and maintenance activities, obtaining and maintaining operating permits, interacting with regulatory agencies and participating in emergency preparedness.

In addition, the Environmental Specialist will provide organization-wide support through air permitting and other collaborative efforts to drive operational flexibility and reduce the MPLX cost structure.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

Our preferred candidate location would be Indianapolis, IN or Robinson, IL, however this position can be based at any L&S location in that area. This position requires up to 40% travel with most of the travel being day trips and will occasionally involve overnight stays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for working closely with operating personnel to provide routine environmental support services.
  • Federal and state air permitting (Indiana & Illinois)
  • Developing internal compliance procedures with the support of operations.
  • Working with other Environmental Specialist responsible for regions around the United States to ensure uniform, high, standards of compliance.
  • Evaluating bids for new business for environmental compliance.
  • Preparation of air emission, water discharge, and stormwater discharge permit applications; permit negotiations; compliance monitoring and preparation of reports as well as emergency notifications.
  • Provide environmental guidance and expertise on project-related activities.
  • Participation in environmental audits. Must work closely with management and operating personnel to resolve audit issues to enhance compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain environmental plans/procedures: (i.e. Stormwater Protection Plans, Groundwater Protection Plans, process documents, etc.)
  • Provide training to operating personnel on environmental topics and procedures.
  • Provide environmental support during emergency response situations. Will be on call to provide emergency reporting/support services.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma with 5 years of relevant work experience required
  • Bachelor's degree (Science/Engineering) and 2+ years of experience preferred


TRAVEL & LOCATION:
  • Preferred location would be Indianapolis, IN or Robinson, IL, however this position can be based at any L&S location within the area.
  • Up to 40% travel with most of the travel being day trips and will occasionally involve overnight stays.
  • A successful candidate will be required to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) with company funding.
  • Driver's License required.
