The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Environmental Project Manager to join our Environmental Investigation, and Remediation team in the Goshen, New York or Woodbridge, New Jersey area.

This position is ideal for an environmental professional with a background in engineering, environmental science, geology, or a related technical discipline who has strong technical and project management capabilities.

The successful candidate will manage environmental projects for private-sector industrial in northern New Jersey. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong technical backgrounds in soil assessment, groundwater fate and transport, Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (NAPL) and environmental chemistry. In addition, strong project management skills including planning and managing scope, schedule and budget of multiple fast-moving environmental assessment and remediation projects.

Position Summary:

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, geologists, designers, and technical specialists, you will manage environmental investigation, remediation, and related projects from initial scoping through completion.

The position will include responsibility for project scope, schedule, budget, technical quality, staffing, client communication, and financial performance. Depending on the project, responsibilities may include interpreting federal, state, and local environmental regulations; directing site investigations and remediation activities; evaluating technical data and calculations; and overseeing preparation of reports, plans, cost estimates, permit applications, and other deliverables.

Much of the technical work may support the investigation and/or remediation of active and inactive NJDEP Site Remediation Program sites..

• Manage environmental investigation, remediation, and related consulting projects.
• Manage project planning, scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, subcontractors, deliverables, and financial performance.
• Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct multidisciplinary project teams.
• Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Assess environmental conditions, potential impacts, regulatory requirements, and technical challenges.
• Scope environmental investigations, remediation programs, compliance activities, and other technical projects.
• Review and interpret site-specific technical data, calculations, laboratory results, reports, drawings, cost estimates, environmental permit applications, and permit terms and conditions.
• Prepare and/or oversee preparation of technical reports, work plans, permit applications, specifications, cost estimates, and other project deliverables.
• Provide technical leadership and sound professional judgment when addressing complex project issues.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, clients, laboratories, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Direct and review the work of engineers, scientists, geologists, field personnel, and other technical staff.
• Maintain project quality through appropriate technical review and quality assurance/quality control procedures.
• Collaborate with the senior technical team to develop site closure strategies.
• Mentor and support the professional development of junior and mid-level staff.
• Manage multiple projects, clients, deadlines, and priorities concurrently.
• Prepare proposals, scopes of work, schedules, staffing plans, and cost estimates.
• Participate in client meetings, presentations, interviews.
• Identify upcoming client needs and opportunities for additional work.
• Conduct periodic field and site visits to support project delivery and maintain familiarity with project conditions.
• Assist field team implementing planned projects.
• Work at remediation sites, construction sites, and other locations where heavy equipment, contamination, or other environmental or physical hazards may be present.
• Travel within northern New Jersey based on project and client needs.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related environmental or technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant environmental consulting experience, including experience in one or more of the following:

o Environmental investigation and remediation.

o Brownfield or contaminated site redevelopment.

o Industrial or private-sector environmental consulting.
• Demonstrated project management experience, including responsibility for project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing, and deliverables.
• Experience communicating directly with clients and managing client expectations.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state environmental regulations.
• Experience managing or coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Self-motivated and disciplined, with the ability to learn new software and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships with clients, colleagues, regulators, and subcontractors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client and project sites as needed.
• Possess or able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) by hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 7-10+ years of environmental consulting experience with progressively increasing project and client management responsibility.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG), or other applicable professional certification or licensure.
• Experience with New Jersey environmental regulations and regulatory programs.
• Experience working with NJDEP.
• Experience managing investigation and remediation projects involving soil, groundwater, sediment, vapor intrusion, or other environmental media.
• Eperience working with sites with intermingled contamination.
• Experience supporting industrial and private-sector environmental clients.
• Experience developing scopes, budgets, and fee estimates and managing project financial performance, including invoicing.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior technical staff.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate environmental assessment data and determine the next step in the remediation process.
• Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, GIS, or other relevant environmental or engineering software is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
• Regularly required to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, with occasional standing and walking within an office environment.
• Occasionally required to lift or move up to 10 lbs., with infrequent lifting of up to 25 lbs.
• Requires use of hands for typing, handling materials, and operating office and field equipment.
• Vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• May travel to field sites, generally approximately 10-30% of the time, depending on project and client needs.
• Field assignments may involve walking on uneven terrain and working around active construction, remediation, landfill, or industrial operations.
• When in the field, must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator when required, and meet applicable medical clearance requirements.

Additional Information:
• This position will be based near Tetra Tech's Goshen, New York or Woodbridge, New Jersey office.
• A hybrid work arrangement may be available based on project, client, and team needs, with the expectation that the employee will be available for in-person client meetings, office collaboration, and project site visits as needed.
• Regional travel throughout New York, New Jersey, and surrounding areas may be required.

Pay: $75,000 - 125,000 annually, commensurate with skill level, geography region and experience.
