Full Job Description
Job Summary Langan is seeking an Environmental Practice Lead to join its collaborative team in Boston, MA or New Haven, CT. This individual will serve a key function in managing and submitting air permitting and compliance, industrial wastewater and stormwater permitting and compliance, storage tank registration and compliance evaluations, waste program management, multi-media environmental compliance audits, development of monitoring and spill prevention and contingency plans, and report writing. In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage Langan's robust technical expertise and leadership presence in the New England market, manage diverse projects, and fuel the further expansion of an innovative and industry-renowned practice. Job Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage large, complex environmental engineering projects, including performing senior-level technical analysis and review;
  • Develop environmental permitting and regulatory strategy for a variety of industrial and construction projects;
  • Manage the preparation and submission of permits and compliance programs for multiple environmental media, including air, wastewater, stormwater, waste, spill prevention and storage tanks, EPCRA (Tier II, TRI);
  • Prepare and submit responses to Notice of Violations and negotiate permit requirements with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients;
  • Conduct multi-media environmental compliance audits, gap assessments, inspections, and program reviews;
  • Lead and develop a team of environmental compliance staff, including hiring, coaching, training, and motivating team members. Provide direct oversight and management of junior staff for specific project assignments;
  • Lead and/or assist in the preparation of proposals, including scope and fees development;
  • Ensure that multiple projects and tasks are delivered on time and within budget. Manage change orders, prepare draft invoices, support project billings, and assist in payment collections;
  • Identify and pursue new client opportunities, expand work within existing projects, and attend develop additional work within an existing projects, and attend business development meetings and events;
  • Maintain membership and leadership roles in relevant industry organizations;
  • Coordinate other work groups across different office locations and different disciplines as needed;
  • Interface professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, staff, project personnel, and supervisors; and,
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team to support projects across US.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering or Science. Master's degree preferred;
  • 15+ years of experience working with regulations and environmental permitting;
  • Professional certification preferred;
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification;
  • Knowledge of Federal, New England states, other states, and county-level environmental compliance regulations;
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple clients and projects;
  • Willingness and ability to identify new client opportunities is strongly desired;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and,
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $112,500- $171,000+. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
