We are seeking an experienced Environmental Planner to join our team in our Raleigh, NC office. The ideal candidate has experience in environmental permitting and an understanding of DOT processes. As the successful new hire, you will specialize in transportation planning; have general knowledge of regulatory permitting and will have some project management or task lead experience; join a multidisciplinary team of planning and natural resource specialists who support infrastructure projects across the Southeast region and nationwide; and support the Environmental team to strategically plan their projects and coordinate with regulators and other stakeholders to accomplish their project goals while also avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating potential environmental and other community impacts, including: environmental documentation (NEPA/SEPA), research and analysis, report writing, regulatory permitting, and compliance tasks for a variety of infrastructure (e.g., highway, roadway, rail, water, waterfront, and port) related projects.

- Prepare and manage documents, reports, and graphics to support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), and other regulatory permit applications
- Assist with the coordination of project permitting (with such entities such as: Department of Transportation, the Environmental Protection Agency, National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Forest Service, and NOAA-NMFS)
- Utilize knowledge of NEPA/SEPA processes and the application of environmental legislation to evaluate project-related impacts
- Conduct environmental studies and technical analyses for Department of Transportation projects, including those for FHWA, FRA, FTA, FAA, and MARAD
- Conduct environmental studies, data collection, impact analyses, alternative selection, and support permitting efforts
- Conduct QA/QC reviews for environmental tasks and project documents
- Assist with proposal efforts, including the development of fee and cost estimates
- Evaluate and assess projects and proposed activities in compliance with existing federal, state and local guidelines, policies and regulations
- Contact vendors; research literature; seek solutions to regulatory requirements
- Collect and analyze data (e.g., economic, demographic, fiscal, legal and/or technical variables) from various sources to determine affects to the environment
- Effectively coordinate, communicate, and provide presentations to a variety of audiences including: clients, engineers, scientists, regulatory agencies, private companies and internal team/clients

Qualifications:- Bachelor of Science in Planning, Environmental Science/Studies or related; required
- Master's degree; preferred
- 7 to 10+ years of related planning experience; required
- Minimum 3 years of task management experience; required
- Demonstrated knowledge of NEPA/SEPA permitting/compliance processes; required
- US Department of Transportation project experience; required
- NCDOT Project Delivery Network and knowledge of Integrated Project Delivery; preferred
- Professional certifications such as AICP, LEED, CEP, ENV SP; preferred
- Willingness and availability occasionly travel overnight as projects require
- Basic GIS experience, particularly in applications relevant to planning, such as mapping, spatial analysis, and data visualization

Working conditions:Travel is primarily in-state, although some regional and overnight travel will be required.
