WHAT WILL YOU DO ?- On behalf of the plant, obtain necessary permits and approvals, prepare environmental reports, coordinate monitoring and testing of wastewater discharges, air emissions and waste streams. Main contact for environmental agencies such as the Ministry of the Environment, Environment Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
- Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and corporate requirements.
- Approve short- and long-term programs in collaboration with engineering staff for the production department. Review production, quality control, logistics, maintenance and mining reports and statistics to plan and modify production activities. Manage the department's key performance indicators.
- Incorporate sustainability and environmental management practices into day-to-day operations and decision-making at the plant. Prepare the department budget and monitor the expenditure of funds within the budget.
- Liaise with the community on environmental issues; coordinate public hearings and consultations on environmental issues.
- Ensure that all required reports are completed on time and that appropriate safeguards are provided in defined policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, all air, water, solid/liquid waste requirements, and/or any specific local requirements or licensing decrees.
- Promote awareness at all levels of the organization of the impact of emerging environmental issues on legal, corporate, ethical and social responsibility.
- Train staff at all levels of the organization in environmental issues and responsibilities.
- Is a member of the E=MC2 energy management team, which is responsible for developing and structuring a program to use energy in the most cost-effective and environmentally-friendly way possible.
Implementation, maintenance and certification of the ISO 14001 environmental management system. - Perform audits, analyze and report environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulators.
