Environmental Manager

Summary:

The Environmental Manager administers the plant environmental program following federal and state environmental laws and regulations in alignment with corporate environmental policies. This position ensures ongoing environmental compliance and fosters best practices in all operations. The position implements environmental policies and practices, supports the development of environmental strategies to meet targets, and deploys tools and systems to monitor performance and strategic outcomes.

What you'll be contributing:

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental (air, water, and waste) permits and all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Maintains a compliance task list and monitoring system, including deadlines to ensure compliance.
  • Evaluates site environmental performance, identifies corrective actions through audits, and implements follow-up assessments.
  • Serves as the local contact with regulatory and community stakeholders relating to environmental matters.
  • Participates in projects involving environmental issues, including contact with regulatory agencies, and accompanies inspectors during inspections.
  • Reviews all projects for environmental compliance and obtains necessary permits for execution Assists regulatory agencies by providing information and assistance as required.
  • Completes, administers, and assists in preparing various reports/renewals.
  • Coordinates and supervises stack testing activities and reviews/approves all stack testing reports.Completes, administers, and assists with various surveys and questionnaires from internal and external sources.
  • Performs audits of the data acquisition system and maintains/administers changes.
  • Administers the training of plant personnel as needed to implement the compliance management system.
  • Participates in audits at other Ash Grove facilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.


To succeed in this position, you will need:

  • Minimum 4 year/ Bachelors degree in environmental studies, engineering, natural sciences, law or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the environmental field, cement, mining or related industry preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in listening skills
  • Proficient in problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build a team and lead a team
  • Ability to perform, plan, organize, and prioritize
  • Ability to make decisions and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion
  • Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of environmental programs, policies, and practices applicable to a cement
    manufacturing environment
  • Ability to promote a positive environmental image of the plant in the community
  • Ability to work with general policies and objectives
  • Ability to work independently and refer questionable items to the supervisor
