Full Job Description
Position Overview:
The Environmental Manager is responsible for the oversight, compliance, and continuous improvement of all environmental programs at the NOG-J site, including munitions operations, HPDU activities, and waste processing operations. This position manages all environmental permitting and regulatory requirements and provides leadership to waste technicians across all shifts.

On-site in Jonesborough, Tennessee

Your Day to Day as an Environmental Manager:
  • Leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental programs covering munitions, HPDU activities, and waste processing.
  • Manages all environmental permitting requirements, including:
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
  • NPDES
  • SARA Title I, II, III (EPCRA reporting)
  • Any additional federal, state, or local environmental permits and reports
  • Ensures full compliance with EPA, DOE, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Oversees environmental sampling, inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
  • Maintains accurate environmental documentation, records, and compliance calendars.
  • Prepares and submits all required environmental reports within established timelines.
  • Serves as the primary site contact for environmental regulators and external auditors.
  • Leads environmental risk assessments and drives continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supervises waste technicians on all shifts, ensuring proper training, performance, and coverage for waste operations.
  • Supports waste characterization, profile management, storage, handling, and shipment in compliance with RCRA and other applicable regulations.
  • Develops and deliver environmental training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Participates in site leadership meetings and provides environmental guidance to operations teams.
  • Supports emergency response planning and serves on emergency response teams as needed.


Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8 years of environmental management experience in manufacturing, defense, hazardous materials, or related industrial settings.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and reporting (SWPPP, NPDES, SARA/EPCRA, RCRA, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental laws.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and communicate requirements clearly to operations.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts and manage competing priorities.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (D.O.E.) security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with hazardous waste programs and/or HPDU or radiological materials preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

Pay: $114,000 - $180,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $114,000 and $180,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
