Job Description:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer supports the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of EH&S programs within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with applicable environmental regulations and internal standards, minimizes operational risk, and supports safe and sustainable manufacturing operations.

The position applies professional-level technical expertise to complex manufacturing processes, hazardous materials management, and highly regulated fab operations. The EH&S Engineer works with a high degree of autonomy, participates in cross-functional teams, and operates in a dynamic environment characterized by rapid change. Success in this role requires an understanding of the strategic mission, goals, and objectives of a technology-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Environmental Compliance & Programs
  • Ensure California sites comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including hazardous waste and chemical management requirements.
  • Implement and maintain environmental programs relevant to semiconductor manufacturing, including Hazardous waste management, Chemical inventory management, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) maintenance
  • Support environmental audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting; interface with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Support site sustainability initiatives by driving improvements in energy, water, waste, recycling, and emissions management, including performance tracking and alignment with corporate sustainability and ESG goals.


Semiconductor Manufacturing Support
  • Maintain and support employee personal protective equipment (PPE) programs.


Training & Management Systems
  • Develop, maintain, and update environmental procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation for FormFactor's global operations.
  • Support delivery of environmental and EH&S training for operations, engineering, and facilities teams.
  • Coordinate outsourced training activities for global teams.
  • Analyze and track training completion and effectiveness, report results to leadership.
  • Maintain the EH&S training matrix by position and task.
  • Contribute to internal EH&S management systems (e.g., ISO 14001 or equivalent).


Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner cross-functionally with Facilities, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, and Corporate EH&S teams.
  • Participate in site sustainability and waste-reduction initiatives.
  • Serve as an environmental technical resource for projects, equipment installations, and operational changes.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting ISO 14001 or other Environmental Management Systems.
  • Direct experience with environmental permitting, wastewater systems, chemical handling, or hazardous waste programs in a semiconductor fab.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on moderately complex environmental issues.


Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fab infrastructure, cleanroom operations, or advanced manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical operational controls.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and EH&S software systems.
  • Experience developing and delivering EH&S training.
  • Knowledge of SEMI guidelines and EH&S requirements.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • DOT Hazmat and Ground Shipper Certification


Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing and cleanroom environment requiring the use of PPE.
  • Exposure to chemicals and industrial systems typical of semiconductor fabrication operations.
  • On-site presence required to support fab and facilities operations.

Pay Range:
$84,800.00 - $111,300.00

Pay Range Explained:
This role in Livermore, California pays between $84,800.00 and $111,300.00 per year, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off. You'll also be eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and flexible spending or savings accounts.
