Full Job Description
Commonwealth is seeking an Environmental Engineer at our facility located in Lewisport, KY. This position provides technical expertise related to air, water, waste and chemical management to ensure environmental compliance and risk reduction. It supports regulatory reporting, permitting, inspections, certifications and audits.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Actively participate in maintaining a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Live and champion the Commonwealth Rolled Products Core Values: Safety, Integrity, Customer Focus, Ownership, Excellence, and Teamwork.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, including EPA, state and local requirement (air, waste and water).
  • Manage and maintain environmental permits, including renewals, reporting and inspections.
  • Collect and maintain accurate records as required by federal, state and local regulatory authorities. Reports any noncompliance or malfunction issues in a timely manner to facility management.
  • Communicate with and maintain professional relationships with environmental agency personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with plant operational staff. Recommend, develop and implement policies, procedures and systems that meet/surpass the standards set by relevant legislation and regulation.
  • Develop and present training programs that support good environmental practices and ensure compliance with State and Federal agency regulations.
  • Manage the collection and evaluation of analytical data and other environmental information to assess site compliance. Maintain and store environmental data, records and documents in a confidential manner.
  • Audit environmental processes and programs for the facility.
  • Management of water treatment systems and controls, storm water management, spill control plans and waste management and reduction techniques.
  • Maintain certifications of environmental management systems such as ISO 14001.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership for on-site environmental emergency response situations or for incidents that occur during the off-site shipment of material.
  • Maintain the air program compliance including Title V permitting and NESHAPS regulations.
  • Assists with community right-to-know reporting including the TRI program.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of environmental engineering or environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (air, water, waste).
  • Experience with permitting, regulatory reporting, and environmental audits.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to contribute and participate in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in aluminum or metals operations.
  • Knowledge of subparts RRR and SSSS a plus.
