Full Job Description
We are currently seeking an environmental engineer to support a wide variety of environmental projects with experience in solid waste/landfill design and permitting, and construction in North Carolina. As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by: • Maintaining liaison with individuals and units within or outside organization Acting independently on technical matters pertaining to your specialty field. Assisting the Sales groups with new business development activities within your areas of expertise. • Developing as a leader of technical and professional staff. Acting as mentor for lower-level employees. Planning, developing, coordinating, and directing several small to large and important projects or a project of major scope and complexity. Working with a few (3 to 5) subordinate supervisors or team leaders (at least one of whom would be at level V) • Directing the work of a staff of typically 5 to 10 engineers and scientists. Evaluating progress and results obtained, and recommending major changes to achieve overall objectives • Conceiving, planning, and conducting research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity. • Serving as the technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for an assigned responsibility area such as subject matter, function, type of facility or equipment, or product. • Keeping abreast of new methods and developments affecting CDM Smith in order to recommend changes to current programs, or new programs warranted by such developments. #LI-AE1 Skills & Abilities • Demonstrated experience with Solid Waste programs and regulations in North Carolina. • Demonstrates good communications skills, both verbal and written. • Possesses in-depth knowledge of project goals, drivers, strategies, risks and opportunities. • Work requires verbal skills, ability to interact with varying levels of staff, as well as subcontractors, and vendors. • Good interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients. • Ability to deal with many people and process a large volume of requests as necessary. • Good personal computer skills including advanced knowledge in the use of MS Word and Excel, as well as Civil 3D and CADD. • Demonstrates organizational skills to balance and prioritize work. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred Qualifications • The ideal candidate will be a NC PE with experience in solid waste/landfill design and permitting, and construction experience for at least 5 years in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. • This position is best suited for an individual that is excited to develop experience across a range of managerial and technical skills. • Experience with supervision and mentoring of junior engineers and in construction management. Amount of Travel Required 20% - 40% Driving Requirements An appropriate and valid driver's license is required. Pay Range Min USD $82,576.00 Pay Range Max USD $136,240.00 Additional Pay Range Information CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training. Additional Compensation All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
